Making a table have fixed width?

I'm trying to create an atlas for my region via the use of a factbook, but I'm having some trouble formatting the table on it.

The table consists of two collums: one with the nation, and the other with the nation's information. The formatting on the nation itself is fine, but when I add text to the information side the table expands and shrinks to compensate for the text I added.

To demonstrate, this is what the table looks like with very little text in the right column:

This is what the table looks like with lots of text in the right column:

As you can see, putting a lot of text into one column makes the table ugly and compressed. I plan on putting a considerable amount of text into the right column for each entry.

Is it possible to make the width of each column be fixed to a certain number of pixels, or am I stuck having to find ways to prevent the right column from consuming the page? Images don't seem to affect column width if a string of text is longer than the image itself.

phpBB does a really poor job of supporting tables. As far as I know, the tools you seek do not exist in phpBB code, nor are we going to add them. Sorry.

It's fine, I understand. I'll just have to find another way to standardize the table sizes.
