Environmentalism and business are too diametrically opposed

Postby Ehenhet Dralgad » Thu Mar 14, 2019 7:50 pm

Environmentalism and business are too diametrically opposed in this game. I made this nation Ehenhet Dralgad to see if eco-capitalist positions were represented. Not so far... I just got an issue I want to complain about in particular. "The backs of 'No Trespassing' signs were made for you and me" because an eccentric billionaire bought up a forest promising to stock the national animal, and then advocated promoting forest purchases for ecological purposes. That fit right into the Ehenhet Dralgad motto "Longevity and Greed", so I was like... Ehhh, I don't like this guy, but sure. And lo, lifespan dropped, environmental beauty dropped, weather dropped. That was not the policy I was agreeing to. :(

That sounds like a technical issue with that issue. I suggest bringing it up in the got issuse mega thread if you haven't already. viewtopic.php?f=13&t=424650

As for the opposition between Environmentalism and Business, I think there is one. But it's a product of the type of issues people write. The trope of the environmentalists facing the corporation is a classic one(hell). It is technically possible to promote both business and the environment, and some issues do it. THey're just rarer then those that try to put them at odds.
A popular Government, without popular information, or the means of acquiring it, is but a Prologue to a Farce or a Tragedy; or, perhaps both. - James Madison.

See this nation for an example of one that manages to have a wonderful environment and a top-rank economy...
The Confrederated Clans (and other Confrederated Bodys) of the Free Bears of Bears Armed
(includes The Ursine NorthLands) Demonym = Bear[s]; adjective = ‘Urrsish’.
Population = just under 20 million. Economy = only Thriving. Average Life expectancy = c.60 years. If the nation is classified as 'Anarchy' there still is a [strictly limited] national government... and those aren't "biker gangs", they're traditional cross-Clan 'Warrior Societies', generally respected rather than feared.

And my own nation too. Worldwide, I'm in the top 4% in Environmental Beauty, top 12% in Eco-Friendliness, top 3% in Economy, and top 6% for Economic Output. It is possible- it's just not quick and simple. You've been around for four days- just keep trying. I remember my nation spending weeks once in an economic depression that I couldn't seem to get out of, until finally my effort produced fruit. It just takes patience.

If you claim to be religious but don’t control your tongue, you are fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless. Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you. | Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter. On judgment day many will say to me, ‘Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.’ But I will reply, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God’s laws.’
James 1:26-27, Matthew 7:21-23
