The idea of barring us from declaring our nation's religion has always been a noxious bit of weirdness. I gave up any hope of ever seeing a "special edition" or of ever getting the "right" to stake out my national religion years ago; so, I made things clear on my Factbook page instead.
FWIW, I've never even seen a regular newspaper inworld which is sad because I love political OpEd cartoons. Likely the NS mods would ban them for ruffling someone's thin skin.
IMHO, the game's documentation and FAQs are woefully lacking, both from a navigability perspective and content thoroughness.
Not to sound too sour grapey, maybe the mysterious "special editions" get rained on while sitting in the driveway and are shoveled away by landscaping elves before I see 'em. Or, maybe the stupid 26-day "use NS or be purged" policy keeps resetting the issues clock each time I forget to log in within that aforementioned all-too-brief window and my nation's unceremoniously destroyed? Not my game, so I can only grouse and opine about idiocracy.
At least I've noticed one improvement- my national data is "mostly" preserved when my nation's destroyed, so rebuilding isn't as much of a pita; though I've lost and had to redesign my flag so many times it's attracted the attention of the Flag-Makers Local #24 union dues committee.
FWIW- before a mod sees this and smugly says, "you have turned off issues" - yeah, because the issues so often lacked any palatable option and those that did often ended up resulting in misconstruing my nation's policies in Overview. Presumably, these unwelcome changes with no chance of a re-do are meant to be amusing, but they really aren't. Seems to be a whole raft of new "issues" that more resemble thinly-veiled political correctness social re-engineering commentary than practical policy issues, so I recently opted for Vacation Mode rather than have PC-types derail my nation's Overview any more than they already have.
EDIT - Just noticed the dates of the previous commenters... sorry for being so late to the party. I'll be signing checks 2019 for most of this year, too.
