Question regarding an automation script

Postby Werreales » Mon Apr 02, 2018 12:01 pm

Hello,

I made an script that automatically clicks on the "Open Loot Box" button when it is available. This scripts only works on browser with Greasemonkey, so I need to let a tab with the Deck page open to let the script process. I wanted to know if I am allowed to use it? According to Scripting Rules, I may use it since it only affects my nation. Moreover, this script only automate simple actions: it clicks on the "Open Loot Box" when it displays, then unboxes the looted cards.

Thank you :)

The scripting rules were not written with all possible future minigames in mind, so a blind application of the rules doesn't do justice to the spirit of those rules.

Running such a script gives you a competitive advantage against others, allowing you to gather far more loot boxes than you otherwise could. That means more cards, more coin in the bank, and thus you can outbid others for highly desired cards. This would not be fair to other players, so the answer is such a script is Not Allowed.

EDIT: just realized, opening the boxes adds your nation name to the Owner overview page of those cards which you get from the loot box, as well as the Finds overview for those cards. These are outside your own nation.

It does not seem like a bad idea to amend the script rule so that "participating in holiday or other special events" is a restricted action.
I prefer not to be called that

If I'm reading the ruling here correctly, I take it that it would be similarly illegal to write a script to automate a process of going through and submitting a 0.01 bid on every card?

That is an interesting question indeed. To my mind, those scripts are harmless, since they don't really give a big advantage compared to the usage of puppets (which I use as well as many players). But maybe I am wrong...

Whether it's illegal or not, such bids are really annoying. Not a staff ruling, just a cogent observation. Please don't do that.

Even without the ruling above it would be illegal to do so all by itself. Compare it to a script to hand out endorsements or move your nation.

But in this case it's actually even worse than that, as it would have a bad effect on the playability of the game (Fris describes it as 'annoying' but it goes well beyond that once one contemplates the effects that would have). Then staff would have to go in and start making changes, and they'd be very unhappy with you for making them do this for what is supposed to be just a fun minigame lasting about a week.
