Of all April Fools things on NS, this somehow exists, even though Cards Against NationStates is vastly inferior to Cards Against Humanity.

When Cards Against Humanity now allows you to add your own custom decks through goddamned Cardcast, and when Cards Against NationStates has no chat compatibility, yeah, I kinda consider it inferior. Not one of their best.

I'd prefer that they have kept Bytecoin or that stock exchange thing. Those were brilliant.

But the thing about Bytecoin, and a lot of the others, iirc, was that it was pretty intensive on the site, making everything slow. And I also think the mods were monitoring it, since there was some plot they foiled, or something....
Might be hard to keep it running constantly.

A reasonable point, yes.

But still, of all the things that they can choose, they kept the Cards Against NationStates. They should have kept the haxx0rz one.

I believe the Challenge feature was an April Fools Day event. So was N-Day. And the WA, in fact. :P
If you claim to be religious but don’t control your tongue, you are fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless. Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you. | Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter. On judgment day many will say to me, ‘Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.’ But I will reply, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God’s laws.’

For perspective, here's when exactly (in BST) the previous games started, from earliest to latest time. We could be in for a long haul of Athertonian proportions here:
  • 2017 (N-Day): 9pm on March 31st
  • 2016 (SecGen election): 10:30pm on March 31st
  • 2012 (the IPO): 1am
  • 2013 (Z-Day): 1am, I think
  • 2018 (hell if I know!): 2:45am and still nada
  • 2015 (C.A.N): 5am
  • 2014 (ByteCoin): 1:30pm
Phydios, Challenge was a 10th-anniversary special, not April Fool's.

Which they often don't. Of the two that did kick off after midnight EST, Cards Against NationStates was an intended minispectacle that somehow hung on and ByteCoins were also being traded on April 2nd. I suppose I'll just nod off to sleep now (3:10am BST), so I see your patience and raise you a request for a nice coffee and a note explaining what's happening in the morning. :P

I rewrote this post as I wanted to add more concerns about the trading card game.

It seems I wasn't far off with the reference to the skin gambling controversy, due to the loot crates.

However, after playing for an hour, the trading card game seems to lose is lustre quickly when compared to collecting expired tax discs (which are a thing in the UK) and paper money.

Granted that childhood hobbies are more likely to hold on for long, and granted that card games are not my strongest area of interest, but my main concern is the lack of acknowledgement for long-time players, as seen with the IPO mini-game where we started with more shares than newer nations.

Alternatively, I am concerned that there seems to be no common goal, unlike the elections for the World Assembly Secretary-General, the Zombie apocalypse, and again, the IPO mini-game.

Alternatively still, it is not as exciting as the Nuclear or Zombie apocalypses, the former being a response to constant requests for some kind of war feature that existed on NS2, but not here.

Finally, the gameplay is slow, with no eBay-like central hub to monitor, find, or respond to the latest wants, offers and live trading card statistics: charts that a player would want to try excelling at.

I'm sorry guys and girls, but card games don't seem to work well on NationStates, but as usual there will be an NSindex write-up and the hunt for controversies and trends that I think the trading card game is referencing or satirising.

The "value deck page" says this:
If a card has willing buyers, its highest bid price is shown; otherwise, its Junk price.
I found that it means this rather literally: it shows the highest bid price even if it is less than the junk price.

Yeah, some of the good nations devalue their cards by buying them for 0.01 from their puppets. I really would like an EBay type thing. Almost no one is selling or buying, & it's hard to find what cards on being sold

I actually like this one better than most of the prior years. While there's no real community goal, I like the fact that people are setting their own goals based on whatever random metric they come up with for the cards. e.g. collecting ex-nation cards. There's no worry about "losing" the minigame while you're away doing RL stuff. Your cards will be there when you get back and you'll still be able to open loot boxes. I do think that the current buy/sell mechanics could be better though. As is, its a chore to dig through all of your cards to see if anyone wants to buy them and the only real practical option for selling is to find a thread where people are looking for a specific sort of card and let them know that you're selling it.

Of the past two minigames, the Sec-General election didn't do much for me and I felt like the nuclear minigame had some major flaws. (Namely that once you were out, you were done and that it was really easy to dog pile someone out of the game while they were offline. I got knocked out fairly early on because some one had a grudge against a region mate and that player's friends were all able to log on before people in our region could come online to defend us.)

While the IPO was great, I actually disliked the fact that it rewarded players who had been here longer. I personally had plenty of shares to toss around (Although I donated all of mine to to a region mate who used them to buy bikini pictures) but I felt like it was rather unfair to newer players who weren't able to "buy" as many things forum side as long time players were. I much prefer it when everyone starts on an even playing field.

Maybe they could do an April Fools of NationStates shutting down some time in the future, that would be really scary.
