Sub-Forum Idea- Writer's Area

Postby Australian rePublic » Sat Nov 18, 2017 12:15 am

Since NationStates was intially created as a forum for promoting Max Barry's book, and there are atleast a few aspiring authors on this website, how about a subforum (possibly within the arts one), where the aspuring, ammature and professional authors of NS (including Max himself if he wanted to) could bounce ideas and feedback off eachother. Perhaps with longer text allowance for titles, in oder for two or more genres to fit (e.g. [BIOGRAPHY] [COMEDY] [NON-FICTION] [SCI-FI])
Or so that people can sell/give ideas to eachother. The only think I could think of is copyright, but don't we have a policy for that?

We can't set custom post length limits for different sections of the forum, it's just one post length setting for the entire thing. And Arts & Fiction is already our creative area (along with discussing movies/books/games/etc.)

If we were to post there, would our copyright be protected?

Yeah. The TOS states outright that you retain copyright over your material that you post; the only thing is that you grant us a perpetual license to host and display it. (Basically, fancyspeak for "You post it, we're allowed to show those posts to people that look at that post(s) when they click the URL to that post(s).)

Do us really need a clause for that? Is somebody going to sue us because we're publically displaying their copyrighted work, despite publically uploading it? Actually come to think of it, we probably do...

Does that apply internationally? What if someone violates our copyright by copying our work without permission?

Sounds like that would be a personal legal problem, unrelated to the site.
