[Solved] Telegrams not sending

Postby Yohannes » Thu Nov 16, 2017 2:50 pm

Hello Administrators/Moderators of NationStates,

I am currently campaigning for a proposal in the Security Council sub forum. I am a newbie (though of course it is not an excuse) and was thus unfamiliar with the 'you have to tick campaign box for WA campaign telegram or it will be considered as spamming' rule. Well, long story short I got warned by NationStates Moderators (and 137 telegrams were removed), and now it seems I cannot send anymore telegram (whenever I try to send one, it would show a blank red box).

I don't know what to do and I didn't realise that an innocent new player's mistake could cost a whole proposal (that has been planned for months)? I am just wondering if I am indeed banned from telegraming anyone because of a simple new player mistake, of not knowing that I had to send a campaign telegram? I did it all manually and it's heartbreaking to know that I won't be able to send anymore telegram (and the current SC sub forum proposal will be wasted) because of this innocent mistake...

Edit: Here is the Moderators message:

Please note that when you send WA proposal campaign telegrams, you must tick the "campaign" checkbox. You can access this by clicking the "+" beside the "To:" box when composing your Telegram.

If you don't do this, it is considered spamming. More information here. Warned for spamming, 138 telegrams removed.

This happens once you click "Send"? For any kind of telegram?

Hi Ransium. I don't think I will make one (as I have withdrawn the proposal I see no need to pursue this further)

[violet] wrote:This happens once you click "Send"? For any kind of telegram?

Hi Violet. Yes, when I clicked "send" for the first time, the telegrams (I have tried three times, two with two different WA delegates) would fail to send and I would be redirected to a second screen (where it will show the red box, blank with no message, at the top) and an option for me to send my telegram again (with the telegram still there in the box). However, when I tried sending the telegram it would not be sent (and instead I would be redirected again to a second screen with blank (no message) red box

Edit: I marked all these telegrams (after being warned) as campaign telegram (ticked the box)

Nope. The errant TGs were deleted, you got a Voice of Mod message, and the task was closed. I handled the task, and I did nothing at all to restrict your ability to send telegrams over this minor warning.

Yohannes wrote:I am a newbie

No offense, but that sounds pretty thin coming from a former Roleplay Mentor with over 14 billion population in your nation. You may be new to the SC, but you're hardly a newbie to the rules.

Hi Frisbeeteria, thank you for the information! I was worried I would be banned permanently from telegramming people because of that silly mistake (not ticking the campaign box). It was innocent (I swear to Saint Maxtopia). I did not know about the 'tick campaign box' rule (again, it was my fault)

But again, the red box (blank, no message) happened three times. (I think it was more than that actually). When that happened to me (I couldn't send [campaign] telegrams over and over again) I panicked and decided "that's it. It's over. I give up."

Okay. How about 'I am a noob in Gameplay/World Assembly/General Assembly/Security Council matter then? Would that be acceptable to you :p

I am (really) sorry if I have wasted the Moderators' time here. I was panicky and I was really worried that I did something really serious there (I am not familiar with gameplay/telegram/campaign related rules). Thank you for your time

Are you saying you can't send any TGs from any nation? You seem to be describing a particular message, which perhaps uses a TG template... if so, what's the ID? Who are you addressing it to?

The second screen you describe: Is this the Telegrams page again? What else is on that page?

This is what happened Violet:

  • I logged on today.
  • Saw the NationStates Moderators telegram
  • Went "Oh my god.... (what have I done this time...)
  • Tried not to panic
  • Decided to send a [campaign, this time I ticked the "campaign" box] telegram to Frenighen (a WA Delegate for the region of The Normburg Pact. First time trying: Didn't work (the blank red box was there). I went: "Weird...". Second time trying: It worked. This was the telegram:

    Hello!

I want to firstly thank you so much for taking the time to read this Security Council proposal telegram for the following proposal: [ https://www.nationstates.net/page=UN_vi ... 1510809463 ]

The following thread is where we can debate and discuss this proposal: [ viewtopic.php?f=24&t=427734 ]

As said in that thread (linked above), before becoming N&I RP Mentor in August, 2014, The Macabees has, since 2004, done many wonderful things for countless players of the National and International Roleplaying sub forums. The Macabees’ 13-year record as a NationStates player and roleplayer has seen:

    (1.) Over 1,000 (role)players (yes, more than 1,000 NationStates players, real players) being assisted and helped with engineering and technical peer reviews (since 2005) in The NationStates Draftroom (2005-2007) and the Draftroom (2007-present);

    (2.) High-quality participation (with record provided in the thread linked above) in NationStates Sports competition and cooperation/storytelling with various members of the NSSports RPing community (including those previously commended by the World Assembly, such as Starblaydia); thus creating enjoyable sporting threads for many players (new and not) to participate in;

(3.) The influence of The Macabees’ high-quality engineering and military research, technical analysis, and designs through the years – since 2005 – resulting in the creation of many, many wonderful technical research and designs (NationStates related) by many historically influential members of the NationStates forum roleplaying communities (since 2005); all of the five largest and most active storefronts in the Global Economics & Trade sub forum at the moment, for example, are there because of the direct and indirect influence of The Macabees’ historical NationStates related technical design and engineering record. Again, proof of this can be found by visiting the debate/discussion thread for this proposal (by clicking the above link) in the Security Council sub forum.

(4.) And many, many other things which can be found by clicking/visiting the discussion/debate thread for this proposal here: [ viewtopic.php?f=24&t=427734 ]

Again, the Macabees has done all of this before his appointment as a N&I Roleplay Mentor (or outside his capacity as a Mentor).

Today, I would like to humbly ask for your assistance in seeing someone who have contributed so much to the roleplaying community (since 2004) be recognised by the World Assembly. Let’s do this! It can be done by simply clicking this link and press “Approve”: [ https://www.nationstates.net/page=UN_vi ... 1510809463 ]

I look forward to discuss/debate this proposal with you in the SC sub forum thread for this proposal [with link provided above]

  • That campaign telegram above (to Frenighen) contained double-posted content because I was already a bit panicky by this time around (and afraid also; a combination of being warned by Moderators [didn't expect that] and also the fact that I was very afraid the whole proposal campaign would fall apart because of my mistake
  • Sent another campaign telegram to a second person/WA delegate: Halling. Again, first try it didn't work. The whole red box with blank (no message) thing happened again. I tried for a second time, and it worked [the telegram was successfully delivered, and this time I didn't mistakenly double-posted the content]
  • Sent another campaign telegram to a third person/WA delegate: Kolloland. Again, first try didn't work (the whole red box with blank/no message thing happened again. I tried a second time, and it worked.
  • Found another WA delegate to send campaign telegram to (I didn't record the name of the account). I tried doing that; again, didn't work (red box with blank message). Tried doing that for a second time; this time didn't work again (red box with blank message). Tried doing that a third time (unfortunately still not working; again the red box with blank message was there). At this point I went all panicky panicky (I know, I am a noob, I am sorry), and didn't even think about grabbing a screenshot of the red box with blank message as evidence. Went straight to Moderation sub forum and posted the opening post of this thread. Then I withdrew the proposal because (I thought) I couldn't send any telegram because I have broken the site rules
I am sorry if this report is not a good quality report. I know, I should have thought about making a screenshot to show the red box with blank message (so Admins/Moderators will not be confused). Sorry for that (for not making a screenshot). And once again, I am (really) sorry for wasting your time Violet with this

Edit:

[violet] wrote:The second screen you describe: Is this the Telegrams page again? What else is on that page?

Yes, it's the telegrams page again. But the interface is different. My previous (unsent) telegram was already there (ready to be sent). And also, there is a red box (with blank message) at the top of the telegram box

Edit2: Now I can send telegram again (normal telegrams; I don't know about campaign telegrams I haven't tried yet) to people. No problem

Violet, the telegram sending error happened again. Here are the screenshots:

The first telegram failed to send; instead there was a red box (blank, no message)

I *think* this is what would happen with a properly marked WA telegram if the nations settings were to reject WA telegrams. You can try sending me a test telegram (not marked as WA) and see if it goes through.

Just to clarify Ransium, so I can send you a campaign telegram (without marking it as a 'campaign' telegram) now and I won't be warned for it? I just want to make sure (don't want to be warned again :p )
