Contradicting Policies

Postby Skullton » Thu Nov 09, 2017 4:07 pm

Just looked at the policy tab on my nation after the new update and I found a rather amusing contradiction between two separate policies.

No Marriage
Marriage is prohibited.

But

Marriage Equality
Citizens of the same sex may marry.

... Did.... Did I outlaw straight marriage? :lol2:

Hmm, do you know if you answered option 4 on Issue #274? I know that option bans marriage, but maybe it doesn't cancel the marriage equality policy? At least that is my guess :P

At the very least, you can say opposite sex and same sex couples receive the same treatment if no one is allowed to marry :P

Edit: Or abolishing marriage in general doesn't touch the marriage equality policy. I just thought of that issue as it is the one that seemed the most likely for someone who picks 'leftist' policies to end up banning marriage.

Yea, some of the polices are weird when put together.

For me its:

Capital Punishment - Citizens may be executed for crimes

And

No Judiciary - The nation has abolished the court system.

No Prison - Jails and prisons are not employed.

I imagine that this problem will be easy enough to fix. There will probably be loads of bugs like this for a while, just because of the sheer number of different combinations of policies that are possible.

Yep, a fix is incoming for the "Same Sex Marriage" and "No Marriage" combo!

This one looks fine to me. You execute criminals but don't jail them and don't give them due process.

Classical mob justice. With pitchforks, torches and hanging.

Marriages contradiction seems logical too. Marriages are equal in the thing, that they are all abolished equally.

I have a weird one:
Following new legislation in Pax Nerdvana, from the highest mountain to the deepest cave - one can always count on finding a good WiFi signal in Pax Nerdvana. Yet, according to my policy thing citizens can't connect to the Internet.
The Internet killed gun control.

Maybe the restriction doesn't spread on tourists.

That issue is about cell phones in movie theaters, so maybe it was not excluded from nations with no internet because other then that effect line it could still apply?

You're only using the WiFi for mobile phones.

The policy is "no internet" however, not "no internet from computers". Presumably that would include accessing the internet from a cellphone.

Nations should no longer display impossible marriage-related combos, such as "No Marriage" and "Same Sex Marriage".

I would assume that general-purpose internet usage is banned, but you're using it for VOIP.

But yeah, this is also a good solution:

There are some cosmetic problems on Antiquity.

The game uses <h2> tags for both the main headings (Government, Society, etc.) and sub-headings (Autocracy, Vegetarianism, etc.), making them look the same. Proper HTML practice is to use different tags (<h1>, <h2>, <h3>, etc.) for nested headings, regardless of what stylesheets you later apply to them.

div.policybox2 is missing the all-important width:320px; height:80px.

On a different note, will we be seeing a policies shard in the API? (I also still want notables and admirables shards, the policy listing has a lot of overlap in function but is not identical.)

My civil policies seem out-of-balance for a nation of 'Some' civil rights. There seems to be too many banned things to count as 'some'.
(state-only press also seems weird but I'd put that down to gameplay-and-roleplay differences)

DEFCON 5. Never forget Z-Day. 1/4/13. 'Corporate Police State' fits just as well as the actual WA category.

Awesome feature - kinda forgot that polygamy was legal in our nation, so thanks.

Quick Q: Does being in the WA and the WA legalising something etc. change my policies?

WA stats are preset by category, so the wording of a resolution is irrelevant stat-wise, just the category.

That said, yes, there are at least a couple that could switch on a casual look through.

In my policies page it states that gun ownership is mandatory, but my weaponization is just about 0 in WA rank. How is this possible?

I would be interested in seeing this develop one step further. An overview of leading policies per region. For example, if a majority (2/3 or 3/4) of residing nations supports the same policy, you could say this is a signature policy for the entire region.
