Do you mean that you were able to view your nation's page without being logged in? That's normal.
Or do you mean that the sidebar/topbar showed you as logged in, but you could tell that you weren't?
Or do you mean something else?

Oh, you're talking about the forum.

In which case:

The forum doesn't immediately figure out when you switch nations gameside. You need to (A) click on a link to the forum from the main site to make the forum "catch on" to who you're logged in to now, or (B) log out and in using the forum's own buttons, rather than the gameside ones.

Even if you change account gameside, the forum doesn't register the change unless you click from the gameside to the forum. Otherwise, the two don't talk to each other, so the forum doesn't know what you've been doing gameside, and still remembers you under whatever you were logged into previously.

The sidebar can be misleading, because even on the forum, the sidebar is sourced from the main game. Better is to look at the top of the page where it says "Members | Search | Logout [ @@NAME@@ ]", which will always accurately tell you which account the forum now sees you as logged in to.

So two different nations? That is a bug/feature depending on who you ask. It enables players to be logged on to one nation on the forums and another on the game.

It's also possible to be logged in one one and not logged in at all on the other (though slightly harder to get to that state, I think).

It's not that hard, it depends on how long you're on a particular device before switching back from what I seen. A few times I logged into my account on my ps4 and when I went back on my phone it logged out. I actually find this good for security standards

Well, you need to click the logout button. It's not something players do very often, because it's possible to log into a new nation without explicitly with logging out of your previous nation first, and there's not real downside to staying logged in until you time out, but it's not hard.

I've sometimes had it happen that I had both the game and the forum open in different tabs, but been doing other stuff for long enough for the session to expire. Then when I come back and click "reload all tabs", the game immediately logs me in via autologin, but I'm still logged out on the forum.

You may want to set your nation to "auto-login" in your settings, otherwise when your session expires you'll have to log back in again manually.
