People can already edit forum posts, and the forum hasn't exploded.
I don't use the forum, so I wouldn't know.

I didn't want to make this just about me, but I wish to see what people have posted in the past. I am responsible for the security of a region or two and use the RMB 'search' feature as part of my background checks. Life in NS is hard enough without having to argue with a questionable nation over the reason for an earlier edit in their post history. If it's there, in black and white, I can act upon it decisively. If the staff can see the original text, I don't see the harm in being able to view it for myself.

Please do not allow the past to be distorted without accountability.

Site staff can't see the original text. It's not saved.

People who get caught abusing the edit feature can be blocked from editing forum posts; or if it happens on an RMB, they can be RMB-banned.

I think we're getting a little off topic now. This is about setting a time limit on editing posts, not whether the mods can see originals or not. I agree that being able to edit posts is nice while doing RP or just talking, but being able to go back months or years later and change a post is neither the best thing nor the right thing. By being able to do that there will be a lot of "you said this last year" counteracted by "no i didn't, go look". This will eventually cause even more divide in GP because it will no longer be able to be verified due to the post being changed by the person who made it.

If the post was edited months or years after it was originally posted, the edit time stamp will be a clue that something is fishy.

I'd like to strongly recommend that change so Staff can see an edit log. Edit logs are essential when it comes to moderating anything forum or post based, and especially when it comes to a browser game environment (speaking from experience) those logs will come in handy.

I don't support a time limit on editing posts, since that's not the case on the forum. I do however strongly support robust moderation tools to address any potential issues that arise from this new feature.
