Nations missing or incorrectly present in the World API

After some more poking around, I've found that the following nations are present in the output from the World API's "nations" shard, but do not exist in the world:

I've noticed that the nations which exist, but not in the shard, don't seem to be getting updated. They both have zero influence in their regions, and one (Freed Europe) is still stuck and 5 million population, despite existing for at least six days.

We're aware of this, and even have a name for it. Our "orphan detecting" code works fine when observed, but fails sometimes when left alone. It's one of those irritating intermittent problems that's particularly hard to track down.

These nations should be fixed up.

We also have a script now that can clean the relevant data on command.

Eventually the root cause should be tracked down, too. :unsure:

Cool. I noticed that Ala Justice was in the list in the OP, but it never updated past 6 Million population.despite existing for 29 days.

I was thinking, to reduce server load, would it be better to have the stats for "Deleted Orphan Glitch" nations fix themselves at the point the owner revives them rather than when the glitch is fixed? If some of those Orphan Glitch nations have been abandoned by their former owners with no intention of returning, would it be a waste of server resources to keep trying to fix such nations that are never coming back anyway?

To be fair, it's probably not likely to use that many server resources to fix those nations upon detection, but would it be better to allocate the server resources to current activity?

Is this a similar issue?

UA Founder is located within Lazarus, but from the National Happenings, they have not moved except to found Unified Alliance, and should be in that region which has since ceased to exist:
21 days ago: UA Founder's influence in Lazarus rose from "Unproven" to "Hatchling".
24 days ago: UA Founder was ranked in the Top 5% of the world for Most Extensive Civil Rights.
25 days ago: UA Founder's influence in Lazarus rose from "Zero" to "Unproven".
26 days ago: UA Founder proposed constructing embassies between Unified alliance and United Countries of NationStates.
26 days ago: UA Founder proposed constructing embassies between Unified alliance and Fredericksborg.
26 days ago: UA Founder password-protected Unified alliance.
26 days ago: UA Founder relocated from The North Pacific to Unified alliance.
26 days ago: UA Founder founded the region Unified alliance.
26 days ago: Following new legislation in UA Founder, voting is voluntary.

Almost certainly not related.

These nations are updating normally now. (And indeed Ala Justice has ceased to exist by the normal process). This is the simplest approach.
