It seems that using the filter DOES allow you to send stamp-free messages, if you qualify for them. But you need to list the region first.

E.G. "region:<myregion>, +tag:WA" will add the residents for free, then exclude non-WA members.

But "tag:WA, +region:<myregion>" will charge stamps, because it's adding recipients at the "tag:WA" step.

Woohoo! Thanks! Leaves a huge mound of cookies.

Very useful. Both of my main regions regularly need to telegram only their WA nations, and doing so through the API was becoming somewhat taxing. Thanks a lot!

Small question: Can Communication-ROs also exclude WA nations and telegram only non-WAs in the region? I imagine the syntax would be:

region:<myregion>, -tag:WA

It would appear that is the case. Just checked and it worked when I entered that in.

Also, I'm echoing how useful this is. Definitely helps with slightly reducing the frustration when you don't want to send a telegram to every nation in the region.

Yes. I actually forgot that I already rewrote this code a while back, so it's in good shape and should work like you'd expect.

EG:

Telegram the Delegates of three regions:
Code: Select all
region:The Pacific, region:The South Pacific, region:The North Pacific, +tag:delegates

Telegram everyone in Lazarus except the Delegate:
Code: Select all
region:Lazarus, -tag:delegates

Telegram non-WA residents of Lazarus:
Code: Select all
region:Lazarus, -tag:WA

etc

Awesome! Thank you very much! I'll definitely have a use for this in my region.

These filters now work for all telegrams, including those addressed to future nations.

Examples:

Send to the next 1,000 nations founded in The South Pacific:
Code: Select all
tag:new1000, +region:The South Pacific

Send to the next 5,000 refounded nations except those who return in Osiris or Balder:
Code: Select all
tag:refounded5000, -region:Osiris, -region:Balder

Send to the next 100 Testregionia Delegates:
Code: Select all
tag:newdelegates100, +region:Testregionia

I'll update the FAQ to cover this in the next few days.

[violet] would it be reasonable to set it up so if a founder (or any officer with the communications or executive) did something like
Code: Select all
tag:newdelegates10, +region:The Insane Region

to auto send a message to the new regional delegate without having to pay for stamps?

So any RO could queue up messages to be delivered to future delegates of their own region? Not sure I get the point of that, and why we should encourage it.

Of course 10 stamps cost 1 cent so there's not much of a barrier.

So, what happens when you combine qualifiers addressed to future nations?

It could be so only founders can pre-send the telegrams to future delegates

Violet, is it possible to have this exact feature, but only with officers?

I want to only telegram the regional officers in my region.

A single telegram may be addressed to 8 different recipients. Go to your telegram page, click New Telegram, and type up to eight names separated by commas. The game will even suggest close matches. If you've got more than 8, send two of 'em.
