Will NationStates ever have a war game beyond roleplay?

Postby Stonok » Mon Jul 18, 2016 8:54 pm

There's a game called Cybernations which is like a cheaper done version of NationStates, but, it has military gameplay and wars.

NationStates should have such a thing.

I hope I put this in the right forum, it said "ideas for improvement"

The layout is 1,000 times worse than nationstates, I can't figure out how to navigate it, which is why I'm still here

Who needs a game mechanic when you've got your imagination?

War in run-a-country games tends to require a lot of micromanagement, which is pretty much anathema to the way Nationstates does things. The ill-fated Nationstates 2 had "war," and it sucked total ass when coupled with a "randomly assigned issues" engine- the only way to win was not to use the war tool at all. Adding war to NS would require a substantial recoding of the game and a likely removal of the core game mechanic- the daily issues- in favor of the same sort of nation micromanagement that any of the other dozens of run-a-country games out there have. Nationstates has always been a political simulator (however wacky), turning it into Yet Another War Game would pretty much destroy why a lot of people play it and stick with it.

if they made one....you would have to include all the crazy crap our minds have created...
not to mention how can the countries be balanced if we live in different ages of technology let alone multiverses?
Current Status: Tundra is rocking with the Krieg...
We are a PMT Military and no We don't use NS stats. Why?

Do I have to bring up the ridiculous military power available to me according to game stats again?

NS has always been a "passive game", with roleplays and simple gameplay. Bringing non-RP wars into it is heresy.
I think a sticky is needed so this question doesn't come up again.

It's in the FAQ, but maybe a more in-depth explanation of why war gameplay is deemed bad for the game is a good idea. I'm sure many people would still ignore it, though. Some questions are simply fated to continue getting asked until the heat death of the universe.

Micromanagement

Postby United Christian » Thu Jan 19, 2017 1:10 pm

Micromanage is a thing that the game needs. Namely regarding government spending. I would love to spend less on military and more on education and such but you can only do that through issues which you don't really get particularly change what you want to be changed. "But that undermines issues" No it doesn't, issues should be used to sent up EVERYTHING ELSE, industries, history and such. But if I want to change what my government spends, like from Defence forces to Education I should be able to do that and not wait for an issue that then breaks something else. And I know there are TONS of people here that would agree with me.
