Apologies if this is grave-digging, but komodo dragon seems to be recognized as an aerial animal rather than a ground one.

Easy enough. Despite being dragon-y they got no wings. Fixed.

Can we add the Manta ray as sea creature? Mine are frolicking in my forests which is confusing the international scientists! :D

Or just all rays, since you have stingrays, electric rays, etc. Though "ray" is a short enough word that you'd risk false matches when it appears as part of another word (watch out for "stray", for example).

Also skates are related to rays, while you're at it.

Is there really a reason you have to hard-code every single national animal in? It seems like it would be a whole lot easier just to give players a drop-down menu next to their national animal where they could specify whether their national animal swims, walks or flies.

Edit: Apparently I am not the first one to think of this, either:

The side effects of hearing a view you disagree with can include confusion, nausea, and vomiting. Just try and listen to someone say anything politically incorrect without doing any of those things. That would require hundreds of thousands of people to individually set their animal type every time they set or update it. It would also need to go into the nation creation system, where it would be an extra obstacle for new players. It's not hard for admin to add animal types.

Also, a lot of people would overlook the existence of the setting or set it incorrectly, so I'm not sure it would lead to an actual reduction in mis-assigned animals ;)

Not to mention people who would intentionally mis-assign it. That number, I imagine, would end up being magnitudes larger than mis-assigned animals now.

lol.

We could keep the old system for nation creation, then open up the option on the settings page after creation. Then people really COULD have those flying pigs and amphibious eagles, if they want.

Heron Is Not A Bird, Says NationStates

Postby Ban Pho » Sat Mar 11, 2017 11:13 am

So the Heron is a bird, but according to NationStates, it's not:
Ban Pho's national animal is the Heron, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests.

Could someone please fix this?

Porpoises hang out on land sometimes, but are largely sea dwelling. (BTW: had to fix the spelling, even though my suggestion bar had the correct spelling)

National animal slip-up

Postby Kaniros » Fri Aug 04, 2017 6:40 am

So while going through a few animals to put as national animals I discovered that Turtle and Tortoises both produce the "frolics freely in the nation's sparkling oceans" so I suppose they both count as water animals. But they are not.

I realize this is a trivial and small issue, but an issue nevertheless.

To clarify
Turtles are water animals, so that's okay. They live almost their entire life in water except for when they lay eggs. But that is not the case for Tortoises.
Tortoises live their entire lives on land, can't even swim for the most part, a few are able to, as some species are necessary swimmers to cross rivers and such, most Tortoises would drown if placed in water.

So I propose this is changed to reflect real-life Tortoises.

I really hope this is the right forum, if not then I apologize. Though I know it doesn't really excuse me.

It's the right forum.
There's an older thread about "misplaced" national animals (viewtopic.php?f=15&t=378334), and I've suggested to the Mods that they might want to move enquiry this into that.

Cod is a land-based animal. Didn't you know?

Postby Tissey » Fri Dec 01, 2017 10:14 pm

It seems there is a small bug in here. I wrote my national animal as the Cod, but I find rhat i have the banner: Red Dawn - Revere a land-based animal. :eyebrow:

It could also just be me who's wrong, and maybe cod live on land now. You never know! :p

It is not really important - just a funny little thing.

not really a bug, rather cod isn't on the list of water or air animals. thus the game will assume it to be a land animal by default, and thus yield Red Dawn.

type in gibberish in the animal field and it will give you Red Dawn.

I've merged these threads and rename this thread and changed OP so it is clear this is the proper thread for reporting animal relocations.
