Don't have the app, since I have an iPhone, but just interested to know. :)

Not at all, since Stately has been using HTTPS from the very start.

Stately 1.8.0 is now out on Google Play, the Amazon Appstore and GitHub! This is a major update that contains the following changes:

  • Nations with regional authority can now suppress posts on the RMB.
  • WA resolution vote breakdown shows votes by individual nations and delegates.
  • Visual improvements across the app.
  • Bug fixes and other improvements.
As usual, comments, suggestions and anything else are all welcome. :)

Stately is now over a year old -- since its release last year, it's had nearly 15k downloads! Thanks everyone for your support.

And just like clockwork, a new bugfix release is now available on Google Play, the Amazon Appstore and GitHub. Stately 1.8.1 fixes a critical bug with posts replied to in the RMB, among other things. Sorry about that!

I have the Stately app. Do you have any plans of updating it now?

The latest update (1.8.1) should be available from all three platforms by now.

Yeah, iOS development is a pain in the butt, and, like he had previously stated, requires a mac. Xcode kinda sucks, too.

Due to changes in the NationStates issues page, Stately v1.7.1 and older will crash when the issues screen is opened. Please update to the latest version (1.8.1) to fix this issue.

Stately 1.8.2 is out on Google Play, the Amazon Appstore and GitHub! This is a minor update that contains several changes, including the following:

  • Add support for issue header images.
  • Show WA condemnation, commendation and liberation badges for nations and regions.
  • Improved normal case logic for converting IDs to proper names.
  • Bug fixes and other improvements.
As usual, feedback and other comments are welcome.

Stately 1.8.3 is out on Google Play, the Amazon Appstore and GitHub. This update contains some bug fixes and improvements, most importantly an improvement to notifications for devices with low RAM. Comments and feedback are welcome as usual.

Stately 1.9.0 is out on Google Play, the Amazon Appstore and GitHub!

The most noticeable change for this update is Stately's new logo! Hope everyone likes it. Besides that, many of the changes for this update happen behind the scenes:

  • Replaced HTML issue decision parser with API integration.
  • Support for [sub], [sup] and [strike] tags in regions and telegrams.
  • Update notifications service and dialogs in preparation for Android O.
  • Fix bug where RMB draft post is cleared even when posting failed.
  • Fix bug where census values less than 0.1% were rendered as 0%.
  • Other bug fixes and improvements.

Barring any major bugs, the next minor update will probably come out around mid-August, which will focus on improved support for Android O.

Comments and feedback are welcome as usual. :)

I got a Nexus 7 on Saturday, and one of the first apps I downloaded was Stately. I was excited to get to use it at last, since there still isn't any iOS support. It's beautiful. This app runs so smoothly and has such a professional look that it's a work of art itself. It could easily be mistaken for an official NationStates app. In fact, I saw in the Play Store that some reviewers clearly had no idea that this app was merely an interface to a web game. (Isn't it frustrating to get poor reviews that you can't do anything about because people are complaining about NS, not Stately?) Anyway, I just wanted to congratulate you on making such an amazing app. I will definitely continue to use it on my tablet.

Edit: I did find a small problem, though. With some banners (like the one I have set for my nation), the menu button on the left is all but invisible. Finding it took me a very long time. Maybe put a dark outline around the white symbol?

If you claim to be religious but don’t control your tongue, you are fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless. Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you. | Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter. On judgment day many will say to me, ‘Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.’ But I will reply, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God’s laws.’

I'm glad you like it! It really means a lot to me. And yeah, a fair amount of reviews on Google Play are clearly from people who have no idea NationStates exists, unfortunately. Stately on iOS is something I'd like to see in the future too, but I'm unfortunately tied up a bit in real life.

I'm aware of this issue -- my preferred solution would be for the app to detect if a light banner is in use, and to switch to a darker icon if that's the case. The framework I'm using makes this a bit difficult, though, but I'll see if I can find a way to implement this, or the fix you suggested. In the meantime, you can also swipe right from the left edge to open the menu. You can also swipe right to dismiss any new screens that are opened.

Hey! I've had this app for awhile and loved it. I like coming in every once in awhile to answer some issues from the app and all. It's quite well done.

The new update, however, has revealed a very annoying bug. The Notices sent as push notifications to my phone were pretty cool, but it's clear that the app repeatedly logs in to the nation whenever it can.

This is annoying when I'm browsing the forum on, say, my PC or phone, because it boots me out of the forum session because the app logged in to the nation (when I hadn't even opened it, mind). This happens once every minute or two. To test this, I changed my password, which triggered almost 100 incorrect logins over the course of a couple hours, and once I logged into the app with my new password, the forum booting resumed (basically, I tested to make sure it was the app booting me and it was). This, obviously, is highly inconvenient, as I have to keep relogging into the forum.

If this could be fixed that would be cool. Maybe if the app could log in on the background like once every hour to check for notices, that would be more sensible, but doing it every minute or so is a hassle.

Besides this, I still love the app, and appreciate all the work you put into it. If this could be fixed that would be fantastic.

That sounds really concerning. At most the app should be checking for new notifications every half hour. A few questions:

1) Which version of Android do you use? Which phone/tablet model?
2) In the Settings page, how often did you set the app to check for notifications?
3) Was this happening in the previous version as well?

2) The settings currently have it as checking for notifications every 2 hours.
3) This just started happening today. I believe I updated the app to the current version yesterday afternoon.

I do believe this is happening to me too. I have my tablet set to auto-update apps, and the forum booting just started today. I've been booted at least six times in the last ten minutes.

1) Nexus 7 tablet, Android 5.1.1.
2) Every 30 minutes, I think.
3) Nope.

Thanks for the reports. I didn't run into this issue while testing so it unfortunately slipped past me. I'll be running some more thorough tests today and tomorrow, and I should have a fix by Friday-ish.

EDIT: In the meantime, turning off notifications will stop the app from periodically logging in to check for new notices.

Stately 1.9.1 is out on Google Play, the Amazon Appstore and GitHub, which should have a fix for the aggressive notifications service. Let me know if you're still having issues.

Assuming you already play NS mobile on data, it would probably be less than the data the mobile site consumes, since you don't have to download CSS styles and other assets.

Scripts may not make authenticated requests of the forum. Unless I'm misunderstanding that, it means that you can't have a program acting like a logged-in user in any way, even if it's just a shell between the user and the site (like Stately).
