Nation Names

I'm not sure if a thread of this nature already exists (I looked extensively), but I felt that I would bring it up. Due to the fact that we have moved to these nice new forums and different features of NS have been updated, etc, I felt that the NS gods should also update the list of active nations (last time they were active being between a month or three) so that those nations that are no longer active can be eliminated and thereby allow newer nations to claim names that are no longer in effect. It's getting to the point that you have nations like "OMGeverynameistaken" being the name of a nation. When it gets to that point, I think its time to update.

Don't know (or don't remember) why this is not an automatic task but I think that names/nations that have been left dying (at least for a long time) are not worth maintaining.

Is there any "action" that could be taken?

I'm not sure which list of active nations you mean, but if you're referring to the "reserved for a former nation" business, where you can't use a name that's been used before (even if that nation died off years ago), then yes, we are going to address that!

It may take a while - and I'd like them to take their time - I don't think we want someone running around with a Francos nation..

At least the ones who were DEATed or permabanned or otherwise would not be able to restore their nation anyway.

My question is what happens to any posts made by those nations? Will they just disappear? Just curious.

I think it would simply show the posts by that person as made by an unregistered member not linking to a nation anymore. That's what it does on the phpbb3 forum I run.

Uhm... This seems a bit radical to me. Unless you mean Nations that are inactive AND never posted.

Uhm... This seems a bit radical to me. Unless you mean Nations that are inactive AND never posted.
