Snip smiley ?

It's not a huge effort to type *snip* in place of snipped-out text, but replacing one of the lesser-used smileys with a snip symbol (pair of open scissors, or elipses perhaps) would make snips easier to recognize.

Perhaps one of these could be replaced: :? :mad: :ugeek: :!: :idea: :arrow:

My quick go at putting such an image together:

Just a quick inkscape job. It’s currently saved as PNG, but if GIF is preferred I’d be happy to convert it.

I may take to using it even if it isn’t put in the default list...

Off-site smilies are fine, unless a user has in-line pictures disabled ... or the thread is old and the link is broken ... but the great virtue of NS smilies is that they display as :smileyname: even when the post is reproduced somewhere else (eg, in a TG or a text file) and even if that smiley is deleted from the NS smiley panthenon some time in the future.

The :name: is usually descriptive of roughly what the smiley means, as opposed to a link which is not.

Of course there are plenty of smilies which could be introduced, but my point is that *snip* is used more often than some of the smilies we have already.

Exactly what I was thinking of. It would need to be a bit smaller and have a yellow balloon, to match the other smilies, but the image of scissors is very recognizable is it not ?

I actually slightly prefer the un-ballooned one, but that seems to work okay as well.
Any other suggestions of tweaks are fine.
