A little inquiry....

Postby Unibotian WASC Mission » Wed Jan 27, 2010 11:26 am

I just started a report for a feeder, and then realized there is no simple way to calculate how many WA nations there are in a large region.

I tried this URL...

http://www.nationstates.net/page=list_nations/un=UN/region=the%20north%20pacific

.. as I had figured that it would draw me up a census report between WA regional mates, and it would have been simple to have calculated the number of WA nations from the number of pages x 15.

However that link just brings up the region's full, undivided list, so it apparently was a sad attempt at URL manipulation.

Anywhoo, I was wondering if the admins would bless us with a number of WA nations in a region, or the aforementioned link. A calculation of WA nations would probably fit well here... "The Security Council contains 23 nations, the 275th most in the world, and 4 WA nations, the 700th in the world."

This might have gameplay implications, so those gameplayers-who-know-betterTM should probably have a say on the matter...

Would make it easier to keep an eye on what's happening in a region, but it wouldn't provide information that isn't already present in a different form. The script-folks would have slightly less of an advantage. Overall, nifty addition to the game, I'm in favor.

By the way, there are 244 WA nations in TNP. I just did the research manually. I'm now moving on to the TWP... yay!

MANUALLY? As in you went to every page and counted or kept a tally? That'd take a long time...

Yep, I just have Lazarus to do, then I'll have done all of the GCRs. *deep breath*

Daaaaaang. That'd be hella boring.

So, do you mind sharing what you plan to do with this info? Because if you intend to find out how many cookies it will take to bribe everyone in the feeders to vote the way you want them to, you must be stopped. :p

I like the idea. And I like it even more if we could order the list by endos instead of WCR.

I like that idea, and I don't think its likely that any gameplayers would complain about it.

On a somewhat related note, I just added the ability to sort those region member lists by either name or length of residency. (Previously it sorted by length of residency, but didn't say so.)

Thank you for keeping the length of Residency option. I did not notice it before and it would have really disappointed me given the way I play the game.

I think it sounds like a great idea. Unfortunately, my region would be put to shame...

Finally fixed: The thread may be gone, but I'm still a "To Hell with This'er!," damnit! :D

I would personally prefer that the default sort was by length of residency rather than name... But I'm currently not motivated enough to sound out other people at the moment. I'll try getting used to this first.
