Splurious Banner Unlocking Bug?

Postby Noldoria » Sat Jun 27, 2015 10:58 pm

Hello,

I've seen on several occasions a banner for my nation made available that I thought had no reason to be made available (ie: unlocked). It seems the banner unlocking is usually triggered by certain conditions being met (ie: population, economy, etc), or by choosing a particular resolution of some issue. Usually, its clear what triggered the unlocking of a banner. In rare caes its dubious, and now I'm thinking there must be some sort of bug at work (or a very well undocumented feature of the game). Here is why: I got the issue of "Sacramental Tax Time". I choose the option that has religious organizations not be taxed, ie: "49 minutes ago: Following new legislation in Noldoria, televangelists flaunt their expensive cars when they attend charity events.". For some reason this unlocked the banner "Noldoria gained the banner Cheeky", which has the subtitle "Take it all off". What could have possibly legitimately triggered that banner? I conclude this is either result of a bug, or a game feature in which not taxing religious organizations causes one's populace to forego clothing - which strains credibility.

So, whats up here?

Does the issue maybe have a hidden nudity booster?
I've also heard of some banners inexplicably unlocking, for example the holy warriors one.

Could be you have always had the ability to earn the banner, since before the introduction of banners. Choosing that option had an effect on nudity levels, likely negative, as it was religious, and that bumped the games engine and it went 'Hey, should should have got a banner for that', and gave it to you. That's what I think happened, as I don't explicitly remember gaining hundreds of banners immeadatly after switching to rift, though I may be wrong.

There's a known glitch from awhile back where [v] said that to "fix" your nation, you should switch your nation off of Rift, to something else, and then switch back. If you haven't done that previously, I'd think that British Accia's hypothesis might be accurate.

I had not changed themes before. I just changed my theme to "antiquity" - will let it stay that way for a few updates then change it back to rift. I'm surprised the theme might affect banner unlocking though.

It shouldn't. However, there was a bug/glitch in the code for unlockings and when [v] fixed that, she said that switching away from Rift (and a single update should be sufficient, if that) and back should be enough to "reset" your nation. Of course, if you didn't switch to Rift until it became the default, that shouldn't be an issue, but if you were an "early adopter" (like me!) ... it may have been part of the issue.

My country is only a few months old. Whatever theme I had when the glitch happened was the default theme (Rift?) and was what I began the game with.

The situation your nation is experiencing is not at all comparable to that those who switched from Rift during the trial phase experienced.

From an issues perspective it does look like a bug, although we don't know the specifics of how the banners are earned - but looking at your nation's stats, it's very difficult to see why you would have earned that banner, and especially so as a result of that issue.

Bug stalking

Postby Noldoria » Mon Jun 29, 2015 7:29 pm

Yeah, I was thinking something was not right about that banner getting unlocked. If there is any more info I can provide or anything I can do to help track this apparent bug down, let me know. I'd even be willing to let a debugger take control of my country for a bit.

Are the states of countries backed up regularly? One thing that could be done would be to revert my country back to its state just before that update, I will choose the same option for that issue, an admin can turn on debugging info output to a log file, and we can try to catch the bug in action. I don't recall what I exactly I did with issues before the "Sacramental Tax Time", so it would be best if we could set things up so that my country starts from just before that update.
