Two Unrelated Ideas

Postby Fit battion » Sat Jan 23, 2010 11:48 am

1. Would it be possible to put a search bar on the sideboxy thing we currently have? So instead of having to go to 'The World' page we could directly search from any page. Maybe it could be put just above the 'Latest Threads' section.

2. Can we make the getting help page easier to find? Currently you have to visit the FAQ page to get there, and even then a lot of people don't notice it and come to technical to ask something that could be answered easier through it. Maybe on a nations personal page we could have a link to it, or somewhere else where it is suitable.

Thoughts?

I'd say I agree with both of these.

The search bar would be immensly helpful. I like this idea

I think the second idea has been dismissed before because it would lead to people submitting loads of GHRs for trivial reasons.

I don't think it would as the GHR page makes it pretty clear what to use it for, and maybe if some more stuff about it is posted on it and has links to other places to find stuff then that would solve any potential problems.

You seem to think people read. They would probably be able to find the GHR page in that case, wouldn't they?

In any case, I don't see many questions in Technical that should be GHRs. GHRs are for reporting abuse, not proposing changes or learning how to use the site. Where are these questions you think should be taking up our moderators' time instead of the community at large?

There's no reason a moderator had to deal with that. Anybody could have answered it; thus, it's perfectly reasonable for it to appear in the Moderation forum. In fact, some might even say it's better that it was handled publicly.

I'd definitely prefer that people who don't know what they're doing come to the forum for help rather than file GHRs with mods. Mods aren't there to teach newcomers how to play; they don't have time to do that. So it's best to keep the FAQ and the forum as the most visible sources of help, with the Getting Help page accessible to those who take the time to read a little.

The search bar would be kinda helpful, but also add clutter, so I'm ambivalent.

I'd support it..

(As a side note, [violet], is your 'online' green bar thing supposed to be overlapped by your avatar?
