Please don't get me wrong, I was a little excited in reading the News post to see NS getting a potential facelift...

However I feel like we've just jumped into a web design time-machine, back to an era of excessive layering and dropshadows, cheap transitions, heavy-handed gradients, clunky icons and menus galore.

The current theme (whilst certainly dated) is substantially cleaner, focused, consistent and generally better designed, if less flashy.

We discussed this very thing before we went' live, and decided that no, it isn't particularly significant. If someone can come up with some way that it harms the game, I'm sure we could reconsider that decision. Absent that, I'm willing to write it off as roleplayed "national propaganda".

Not sure how much of a bug this is (and I doubt that it will rise high on the to-do list), but I have noticed a very low resolution zoomed-in version of my flag appearing in the the bar at the top of the page within the main NS site. It only does this while the rest of the page's content is loading, and only is there for a second at most. The flag just fills the bar that normally contains the "Notices," "Issues," "Telegrams," etc. buttons, and does not spread anywhere else. I would be glad to file information about operating system if it is needed. I have so far been unable to capture a screenshot.

Oh, and the above poster is not me.

EDIT: This only occurs when moving from the forums to the gameside site. Nevermind.

Maybe yes, maybe no.
I have noticed that the top menu does not zoom with the screen on mobile, rendering the "Switch" and "Logout" buttons unreachable.

On the gameside top bar, I've noticed that the bottom and top of the icon aren't links; only the section in the middle, despite the whole icon just looking like a box of the same colour. Can be a mild inconvenience when you're navigating around quickly.

So do you plan to add any more fearures to this theme?

I don't know if this has been pointed out already, but in regions with a lot of embassies where is says "and # others" it's still in green and looks weird with the regions being in brown. And when you expand the embassy list it does this odd indentation thing.

Also, with the like feature, I notice you can only like posts in the region your nation's in, I think you should allow people to like posts in regions you can post in. You know with region that share embassies and allow for people to post in the region they should be able to also like posts in that region.

I had that problem during Alpha testing. It was a News item, and it was mis-positioned because of the browser.

Go visit the News page and read Max's holiday greeting, then come back here and post your browser + version number + OS + version number.

I'm having this problem too.

I still want to see the banners on other nations' nation pages report somehow - hovertext popup, maybe? - the title and what they're for. That'd also solve this, insofar as it's a problem, because while nations could copy and post as custom banners that they haven't earned, the popup would say, "Custom #1 - Reach 50 million citizens" instead of, e.g., "Bright Lights, Big City - Combine 1 billion citizens with a very strong economy".

I'm not too sure if this is related to Rift, but for the past few days gameside buttons that activate JavaScript things ("quote RMB post", "expand all TGs", etc.) don't work for me and just redirect me to http://nationstates.net or http://nationstates.net/# depending on occasion. JavaScript is however activated in both browsers and works on other sites, just not NS.

Internet Explorer 11, on both Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1.

EDIT: Tried it with another Windows 8.1 computer (Surface Pro 3), and the things work. Odd.
EDIT2: For reference, the first computer was a HP laptop and the phone was a Lumia 1520

Just noticed clicking on the flag refreshes the banner. That's a nice touch, if a subtle one. :)

Suggestion: Have the score from the trend chart appear when hovering over the categories on the main page. For example, where it says "Economy: Frightening", have it say "100/100" when hovering over "frightening".

I agree absolutely. And also know what the banner is representing, since I don't know them all by heart or even have them all myself

Sorry that I'm repeating myself again after ten days, but I still hadn't gotten an answer. Will you consider this suggestion?

Perhaps there should be separate threads for Rift suggestions and bugs? I feel like a lot of each is getting confused and buried with the other.

Must admit I don't quite understand this one. Do you mean you want to see a list of banners that another nation has unlocked, even if they haven't decided to display them? Because if you want to see the ones they have decided to display, you just need to watch them rotate through on their nation page.

I do think it's a good idea to be able to make the nation page show a little info about the banner. (And, ideally, a user-specifiable caption.)

Nah, one place is handy. I'll be going through this thread from the beginning a few times as Rift moves through different phases, from critical bugfixes to getting out of beta to additional nice-to-have features.

I think what they're saying is, of player one go to player two's nation and player two is flying a banner, say, for having a perfect enviroment, but player one has never seen that banner and has no idea what it means, they want to be able to see what the heck they did to earn that banner (especially if they haven't unlocked it, and therefore can not go into their own settings to explore). Two solutions that come to mind for this are to a) have a spoilers thread like the one that exists for Issues, sort of, showing each banner and what it's for (the non-coding option), or b) perhaps having it so that when you hover over the banner, what it's for comes up in a little text box, much like when you hover over the JenGov ad and it says something about JenGov and Lexicon by Max Barry (the coding option) (if that's feasible?)

EDIT: of course, a little caption works too :P

Which browser? And does it only happen in that browser, or on another browser/device (eg iPhone) as well?

Both is correct. Being able to see a list of unlocked banners, like you can see the unlocked achievements of someone else on Steam.
And then having a short explanation of the current banner shown, when you don't have it yourself or don't remember what you needed to do to unlock it.

I think I remember seeing it on an iPhone as well as on my computer. I use Safari version 5.1.10 (which probably has some bearing on the problem).

Oh, and another tidbit of information is the fact that the flag only appears when en route to the nation page, and nowhere else.

If one clicks the name of a nation that sent you a telegram under the Notifications tab, it redirects you to the message instead of the page of the nation itself.

Because that's how it's supposed to work? The notification is about the telegram, not the nation.
