Server Errors

Postby Lord-General Drache » Mon Jan 04, 2010 10:47 am

I've been getting a LOT of error 500s within the past few days. Recently, I've also been getting messages that boards are "temporarily unavailable." I haven't noticed them happening more or less during a particular time of day, though. I don't know if this has just been limited to me or others, but I figured I should let you guys know.

It's not just you. Its been really bad this morning, especially. I almost lost a long post in II when it disconnected in the middle of posting, which could have been really annoying.

I know they took the site down a while back to attempt to address this. Either the snow-issue (Like in the other thread) is causing a lot more people to be on in the US increasing site traffic, or the attempted fix may not have worked as well as hoped.

Not just the US, though: I have observed slowdowns and Error 500s (Internal server error) almost every day back in UK, although I am at the edge of the telephone exchange.

No, I mean increased traffic from US-based players because of bad weather keeping them inside could be causing the site to slow.

It's everyone my goodman.

We should implement a rule that blocks everyone on one side of the world form accessing the site at one hour intervals! That wold sort out the situation.

Agreed, I have been getting a substantial amount of 500 server errors, and just a few minutes ago the forums were running at a cripplingly slow rate, a few weeks ago, the game its self was so slow, I couldn't play, it took 10 minutes of waiting to see a page that said the link was broken, Max, whats going on!

I'm guessing Server overload. There are >100 users on right now. And I personally think that the idea of having 1 ENTIRE side of the world not be able to access the site for an hour long interval is completely stupid.

The slowness back in December was from a hardware failure on the host end.

I too am having problems, and my region members are as well, despite the fact that I have verified they live in other parts of the world...

I think we bought some time with the disk reconfiguration we did a while back, but as the forum gets bigger, some operations take longer to complete, which can choke up the whole place.

I am hopefully close to tracking down a few of the nastier load-generating forum issues, which should help; beyond that we either need to purge/archive old posts or get more hardware!

With all due respect, let's get this done. Purge the old posts but also you know what? Start enforcing policies that apply to needless picture spam in all other forums to forum 7 as well. I'm sorry for the tone, but this has become aggravating. I bet forum 7 is a big part of this problem.

I was wondering the same thing, if pic spam was part of the problem, despite my mild love affair with forum 7, NSG>F7

Don't take this the wrong way, but I absolutely hate the idea of a purge.

I'd be willing to donate a bit of cash for a hardware upgrade.

Forum 7 has to abide by the rules too. *nods*

tho I notice that in forum 7, when threads hit a certain level of inactivity... they get purged... there's only 6 pages of threads... should this be also implemented accross the board? say... 10 pages of threads with archiving only a few...
