More seriously, we're tracking the lag spikes and hopefully we'll nail down a cause. It's not normal, as the load usage doesn't seem to line up to any sort of spike in users online or new users created. [violet]'s been notified and hopefully she'll get the message soon and be able to look into it.

My personal theory (bearing in mind guys that 1) I'm not a computer engineer and not the most savvy when it comes to hardware and 2) I can't see the same data on site usage that the boss can) is that either we've got a mild DDOS attack going on OR one or more of the CPUs on the shiny server locked up on a process that requires [violet] to go in and kill it manually. I'm pretty damn sure it's not the server imploding from normal player usage.

Sorry about that! It's probably a bug introduced with the new code yesterday, which I will track down. As Reppy said, the problems weren't from normal player usage, but rather a few big lockups, after which things returned to normal. Once I track down the bug, we'll be good again.
