Unable to use NS Taskbar

Hey.

So this forum has been up and running for about a month or so now. The layout errors that plagued IE6 have been fixed and everything seems to be running quite smoothly thanks to [violet] and the admin team.

Except I still can't use the taskbar for the game while on the forum. Nothing happens when I click any of the links located there, it just shows the URL for the new page but does not load unless I right click and open in a new window.

Normal clicks don't work, right clicks and opening the link in a new page does, in short. In fact, it's the only thing on the entire site that does't work.

Here's hoping thine almighty admins can finally fix this problem with a few simple clicks and (aside from having dedicated RP mods) solve the last of the problems with the forum.

IE6.

I've got dial-up Internet so it is impossible for me to upgrade to IE7, and I hate Firefox and Chrome, so please don't say 'upgrad ur browsir lolz'.

That is very strange. I don't see that in IE6/Win, and I can't think what might cause a link to work with right-click but not left-click. Anyone else on IE6 experience this?

I know that there's an IE6 bug out there that makes links non-clickable, and it has something to do with absolute positioning. I can't give any specifics, because it's been forever since I've done browser cross-compatibility designing, let alone fixing IE6 bugs.

[violet], to see if this is a positioning bug, you might want to add "position: relative;" for links in whatever stylesheet the sidebar uses, i.e.:
Code: Select all
a {
    position: relative;
}

Having a poor internet connection is really no excuse for using outdated browsers...

yarly

Even if you hate the hell out of Firefox, Google Chrome, or Opera, you could at least use one of the latest releases of IE.

Google Chrome is a ~500 kb download iirc. Even on the worst of dial up connections, that isn't that long.

edit - let me check the size of opera since you hate chrome for some god-forsaken reason.

Opera is ~9 mb, less than IE8 at 13 mb.

IE8 is about a one and a half hour download, Opera about an hour, and Chrome a few minutes.

I repeat my previous statement. I HAVE tried to download other browsers, even the ones I hate, but they time out or I get disconnected and have to start all over again.

IE6 is the best I can do, and I appreciate that [violet] has/is taking the time to try to fix this for me, as they have with the layout problem I was having with NS itself several months ago.

I notice that error too, but only when I'm using my blackberry to access nationstates.

(Yes, it is possible to use NS on a blackberry...it's a long train ride - hush)

You could try Avant, I've never used it myself but it gets some fairly good reviews. The download is 1.9MB so I reckon it should take about 5 minutes on a 56k modem (which isn't really that long to wait if the session times out).
