For what it's worth, the site appears to be back up again.

Yeah, no problems for me so far. A big thank you to everyone involved!

Same, Chrome gives me an 'ERR_NAME_RESOLUTION_FAILED' error and Firefox tells me the server is not found.

Aye, this appears to have happened sometime yesterday afternoon.

At least it was operational for three days?

OK...so who's actually in charge now? Is it still Eluvatar or has one of the admins taken up the reins yet?

I'm running it, and it's actually running at the moment.

I've let [violet] know of the DNS problem, but in the meanwhile anyone can use the site by adding the following to their /etc/hosts or %SystemRoot%\System32\drivers\etc\hosts file:

Code: Select all
104.236.145.30      nswiki.org www.nswiki.org archive.nswiki.org

The /etc/hosts trick worked, but I'm not able to log into the wiki.

I'm not the most technical-savvy individual - how tough is it to fix a DNS issue, and about how long can we expect it to be resolved?

I can confirm that NSwiki is online again as of now. :)

The bot is not running correctly. It doesn't appear to be configuring the stat values properly, and on many pages it's just replacing them with "-1%". It either needs to be fixed, reprogrammed (for example, only generate articles for regions with 20 or more nations, automatically delete articles after a region is deleted? there are tons of junk articles for regions "devoid of any nations"), or - and this is a controversial idea - shut down, and just allow players to submit their own original work.

I personally am fine with doing away with the bot.

Also, to whoever The Archivist is, the effort is appreciated. Just remember, unless you have a newer database, the archive site you're importing from was current as of late 2009. Some stuff there is rather outdated.

Ah! Thank you!

I'll add the LuaSandbox extension ASAP!

It’s been 3,000 years nine months and this hasn’t happened.

Also, there’ve been nine MediaWiki security updates issued since NSWiki last had an update installed in mid-2014.

If y’all need someone to help sort this stuff out, I’d be happy to pitch in.

The luasandbox extension did get added.

At this time NSWiki Archive is temporarily down, and will remain so for several hours.

Hello?

NSWiki Questions

So I recently decided to take up the task of updating, maintaining, and improving my regions' NSWiki page. Obviously, if used correctly, NSWiki can be a treasure trove of information on a region. I would like to be able just to link to the NSWiki page at anytime and just let someone read about my region. A bunchh of information is especially important to recruits not sure if they want to join. So I have a couple questions and I hope someone can answer them.

What information is vital on a wiki page? How much regional history should be put on the wiki page? Should government members be given quick biographies (just an idea I had)? Any other suggestions?

EDIT: Forgot to include a link to the current NSWiki page.http://nswiki.org/Region/Versutian_Federation

I just can't login to NSWiki. It says "No Nationstates Nation named Medwedian Democratic Federation.". Sorry if it is the wrong place to ask for help, but can anybody help me?

Hi,

I recently checked the number of automated articles at http://nswiki.org/index.php?title=Categ ... n_articles, and I wonder if it is time to prune all those ex-region ones to keep the article count up to date?

Sorry if this counts as a gravedig (hopefully it's not), but I just want to say: Thank you for creating this encyclopedia! I have started to use it lately, and am really liking it so far. I love how it's built in to interlink your account with your in game NationStates account as well. It makes it much less of a hassle to use (not having to have an extra password to remember when you are away from home) and also give it that semi-official feel (though it's probably not even close to semi officially connected to NationStates the game itself)

Thanks!

The site is down while its search index is being rebuilt.

Edit: Assuming nothing goes wrong, should be a few more minutes.

Things should be back to normal.
