When I first started playing NS a few months ago I was bewildered by the seemingly endless number of acronyms which pervaded everywhere I looked! I started to compile a list of acronyms but after a couple of weeks I gave up through lack of time, and to be honest, enthusiasm. However, recently it has been suggested to me that I should resurrect the list and get other, much more knowledgeable players involved. The eventual aim will be to publish the list somewhere in the NS world, maybe as a FAQ item.

Please feel free to add to or amend the list in this thread and I will update the list as we go along. My efforts below are far, far from complete and if you want to tg me with your input that would be fine or if you have a list of your own we could all share, that would be wonderful. So, here it is in all its limited glory.

Health warning! The entries contained in this list are not all within my sphere of knowledge and I have not yet had them peer-reviewed. Before the list is put out in the market place I will ensure that the list is vetted by those much more in 'the know' than me

FAQ is an extremely common acronym everywhere. You shouldn't need to include it.

VF is Versutian Federation, not Verslian Federation.

The only intialism on that list is R/D.

No, GCR and NS are also initialisms - when you have to pronounce them by saying their letters, they're not acronyms, which are pronounceable as words even if not properly words themselves.

I might be willing to handwave it if you'd like to assert you say something approximating "gukr" or "nes", but I think that would make you the only one doing so. The accepted pronunciations are "gee-see-are" and "enn ess".

No, that one's more focused on specific agencies and the like. I was meaning more like the things Uni mentioned below you (and above this post) - CoCR, FOMA, NAPA, etc. And, yes, some of those are included in that list, but ... not all of them. None of those are mentioned there, and they're referenced by acronym a fair amount, I'd say, within the GA.

Fair comment about the list and its title, and to take account of both types of 'groups of letters' I will re-title the list "NationStates Acronyms and Initialisms". Everybody happy? Thanks for all the inputs - the list has already doubled in size in less than a day I have also added some entries which I have seen used but for which I am unaware of the use/words eg, NAPA, FOMA etc. If you can fill in the blanks - great
