This is... well im speechless. Awesome work you two.

This thread is missing content at the end; it had posts all the way through June 13, 2009.

Possible that the stuff at the end was posted after Jolt sent [v] the archive? The oldest posts I found here from when the mods and admins were first setting up the current forum date back to April 2009, and I forget when we were able (well, more Max/[violet]/Salusa were able) to badger the archive out of Jolt. We wouldn't have anything posted to the Jolt forum after that.

If what appear to be the thread start dates are anything to go by, then yeah, April 8, just where the long thread ends. Good call, thanks! :)

Has anyone spotted any posts that... shall I say... shouldn't be there? I'm not confident we are properly handling posts deleted/hidden by moderators.

Haven't found any yet, but I've found posts that had been moved or locked. I will keep my eyes peeled as I continue dredging through. Thanks for the archive, [violet] and Afforress, it promises to be a very valuable resource! :)

Found a really old RP I took part in with my first nation on NS, though noticed some of the nation names are missing on some of the posts.

Any chance that the rest of the archive will be posted?

I've only just found this thread (while looking to see if a Jolt archive existed yet, incidentally), and I'm afraid that I'm going to need a change of pants having seen that all of this now exists. Everybody involved is now my hero.

This is pretty neat. So far the archive has only got threads from Nationstates and Technical though. Would it be possible to add the other forums as well? Personally I'd be really interested in looking through the Moderation and Gameplay forums.

I support peace in Israel and Palestine. The governments and people in power on all sides are an absolute disgrace, and their unwillingness to pursue peace is a disservice to the people they are meant to be serving. The status quo is not simply untenable; it is unquestionably unacceptable.

Integrate a moderation system of some sort or upload things to a forum-like setting... allow people that are moderators here to trawl through, VOLUNTARILY, and look for things that shouldn't be there and delete them!

I apologize in advance if I come off looking like a total ass here.. but... ah... do you have any idea how massive the old Jolt forum was? Since 2009, this forum has had nearly 17 million posts in the course of roughly 5 years. The Jolt forum ran from roughly 2004 until it was finally made read-only in like, 2010 or 2011. So that's quite probably 17 million posts, if not more to look though. Sifting through all of that just is not a plausible solution in the slightest.

I think mods have quite enough to deal with already

I cannot think of any easy way to scan / remove / check for those other than adding a little flag that can be raised by readers for anything they stumble across that should not be there. Of course you would need to identify the flaggers in case someone thought it would be fun to go ahead and flag everything.

I didn't start playing NationStates until just after the Jolt service was shut down, but I am a bit confused. I'm confused what the delay is for finishing the creation of the Jolt Archive. Unless [violet] has some technical issue with the tool I created that I missed or have not been informed of, the archive should have been long completed by now. I am confused about the comments about checking the archives and need for moderation. Why is there a need to curate the archive? Is there content that was in the previous forums that should not be brought to light? Will the archives reveal [violet]'s true identity as Clark Kent? Did the moderators post embarrassing selfies? Something else I am missing?

While I'm not justifying the concern, I think what may be being alluded to here is what happened at the end. When relationships between Jolt and NS broke down, and NS had moved to its new forums, Jolt (I guess by that time they were called OMAC) removed the moderator privileges of the NS mods on their forums. It didn't really matter because everything was now taking place on the NS forums, where they had mod privileges, but it meant the Jolt forums became a kind of post-apocalyptic wasteland, with Hairless Kitten being the chief zombie. He was banned from NS but the NS mods were powerless over him on Jolt, and he posted a lot of incredibly foul stuff. There was also general spamming, and uncontrolled ad spamming.

Ah! Fair enough. A couple of the off-site archives run for a year or so later, into 2010. If the NS archive ends then, though, then disregard my point entirely.

We don't want to publish stuff from the mod-only forum into the open. It's not all working smoothly, and mistakes are easily made. Safety first.

I would like to see The White Tower, when that thread is available. So many memories, so many mistakes, so much noobishness. And that's just from me. It was in II, but I understand it'll take awhile Probably a great while, The White Tower was the largest thread to ever exist on the Jolt Forums, I believe.
