Postby Socialist Federative Republic of Sornia » Fri Jul 04, 2014 12:49 pm

So I got Nationstates++ and I'm trying to settle my regional recruitment. So I wrote to technical to get an API key and got it. Now it says I need a secret key and when I click: what is this'' It directs me to the same page to the same paragraph...Can someone tell me what this is and where I can get it?

It has been on the first page of the technical subforum for the entire past year!

There have been numerous discussions elsewhere as well. I've telegrammed every delegate/founder in the game about it before. I'm not sure how I could make it more visible without literally going house to house and handing out fliers. ;)

Would be nice if I could stop NS++ from wrestling with me for being logged in when I leave NS open on my computer. I try not to but I do forget now and then. Times like now where I will be out for a couple days it gets annoying that I keep having to log back in to use the forums.

Yep, that occurs when you leave a forum page up and I hate it too. I am fixing it for the next release.

I seem to have temporarily fixed it by changing my password which is nice, still great to hear a fix is on the way, that has been annoying me for while ^_^

If I use the option in one of my puppets to 'auto dismiss issues', does this keep them from being deleted due to inactivity?

For now, disable ads in the NS++ settings. A fix is in the next release.

By the way, not sure if related, but whenever I see that ad bug, Chrome uses 100% cpu.

Hey Shadow, have you considered any sorta of themes that you could add with NS ++?

Like with what Firefox has for example? (I have a planet theme that has a planet and stars)

I think it would add a good amount of customization at least, and as a FT role layer I think it will add spice to me if we had themes like that.

I don't know if you can do that per say, but I just wanted to leave that idea out for you since the idea just sprung up.

I apologize if I wasted your time with that btw :|

It's something I've meant to add for a while, I just haven't really decided a good way to create a "theme designer". It's a bit complex...

I'm...actually shocked that an Administrator reacted positively turning the ads off...I mean, I paid the store for it on another account so it doesn't bother me and obviously [violet] is an employee, but you'd think she'd have objected to NS' source of revenue going bye-bye.

Meh, what do I know (That's not sarcasm - I'm sure that there is a real behind the scenes reason why)?

No.

There are plenty of alternatives to ad blocking. Adblock plugins, Ghostery, Disconnect, etc. NS++ is rather lenient in terms of adblocking as it does not also block normal Google traffic analytics, like other 3rd party plugins would.

Currently NS++ does not autologin for your nation (I couldn't even if I wanted to... I don't have your passwords). You have to visit NationStates.net at least once in the 28 day period for issues to be dismissed.

Manual dismissing requires logging on, which counts as activity. I don't know how NS++ auto-dismiss works, but I'd guess that you still have to logon to be considered "active".

Edit: I didn't see the above post.

Well, it's a bit of a balancing act. I've always said I don't mind people installing ad-blockers because if you're annoyed enough by ads to take manual steps to remove them, you're probably not going to stick around on the site. If the ads don't bother you, or you're happy to tolerate them to support the site, that's great. But if they drive you nuts, and you don't want to pay the three bucks to remove them, I'd prefer that you ad-block and stay. That's why I requested Afforess make ad-blocking an opt-in part of NS++, which he kindly did.

As Afforess says, there are plenty of ad-blocking add-ons out there. Which actually means there's no reason for NS++ to do ad-blocking at all... it only targets people who don't mind ads enough to install a general ad-blocker, but do care enough about NationStates to install NS++! Those people should really be the backbone of our ad revenue. But again it's less of an issue since NS++ stopped ad-blocking by default.

The NS Store has picked up a lot of the slack from the drop in ad revenue. It was always a little uncomfortable when we depended on new site visitors using Internet Explorer to pay the bills.

The one really niggling problem with NS++ has been that even when the user enables ads, it cuts them off so we don't get paid for them! But as per posts above, this should be fixed soon.

While we are mentioning fixes, on the HTTPS version of the NEWS page I don't see the youtube iframes you link. You can't link HTTP iframes on an HTTPS page. I'd recommend you always use HTTPS for those stuff, since on HTTP, HTTPS iframes are no big deal, but the reverse is not true.

I don't see that problem on that page, perhaps [violet] immediately fixed it?
