Emails not received

Postby [violet] » Tue Oct 22, 2013 4:55 pm

The IP address of our mail server changed recently, and our new IP address turns out to be on a few anti-spam blacklists. I've been doing the rounds to get it removed, but some ISPs are harder to deal with than others. The main culprits at the moment are Hotmail, who say they are happy to remove us but will apparently take up to 10 days to get around to it, and BT Internet, who haven't responded at all. People with email addresses at these places currently cannot receive any email from us.

People on other ISPs might find that email from us is suddenly going into spam folders, rather than your inbox.

Yes, on my gmail account it went to the spam folder. Luckily it was also automatically labelled as Nationstates so it popped up there as well.

Blacklists are such a horrible design...IP's get recycled all the time, but a blacklist is forever. :palm:

Or apply to the WA with a puppet and go mark it not as spam in the spambox. ;)

Well then what is the address for the email server? Maybe we can add it to our safe lists manually.

Hotmail and Outlook are both Microsoft providers, so I'd expect them to share blacklists. No idea on AT&T. Try creating a Gmail account for your WA - those seem to be getting through.

I've had a Nationstates TG (a password recovery one) sent to the 'spam' file by gmail within the last week.

Yeah, but it still got there ... and the fine folks at Gmail are actually open to the idea of recognizing the validity of our complaint. Hotmail and others are simply blocking us entirely.

Not Receiving Email

Postby Aaland Islands 2 » Sat Oct 26, 2013 10:07 am

I applied to the WA a little while ago, but I didn't receive an acceptance email. I read about the blacklisting issue, but the program I use occasionally puts mail in the junk folder, but blocks no one, and the email isn't showing up, anywhere. Is there anything that can be done to help me?

On the program I use, Microsoft Entourage, I create my own blacklists, and I have a folder into which all non-blackilsted spam goes. I haven't blacklisted NS, nor has my email shown up in the junk folder.

Believe it or not e-mail can be blocked further upstream. That is the case here.

Could I ask why they're doing it?

You could perhaps read the OP.

You could perhaps not be so hostile to everyone, and realize that I have read the OP. Several times.
If you don't want to tell me, just say that you can't tell me.

I just read it a few times again, and I still see two things said there: We are on spam blacklists, we are working to get NS out of the spam blacklists.

It also says "we have a new IP." One that belonged to someone else before, who presumably did something unpleasant, which resulted in blacklists. What they did, I don't know. It had nothing to do with us, which is what [violet] is trying to correct.

My gmail is working (though in the spam folder), however I'm getting nothing on my AOL account, nor the silver isles mailserver, but I can change that one. It's got a stock blacklist of dogy mailservers installed.

Do you mind sending me the ip address of the mail server so I can have rid of it from this blacklist?
