Yes, we had a forum outage, and yes, it's been resolved. Apparently our Post Oil reservoir ran dry, and we had to ship in a refill.

Seriously, we ran out of posts. We really did. Via a triumph of tri-continental cooperation within our admin team, our forum post potential has been increased from the miserly 16 million to our current 4 billion. So yeah, you get to share all that vital information about whose military rifle is the most badass, or which pony is shinier again. Have at it.

How...did...we...break the forum with 16 million posts?

I have a feeling that we are going to break that 4 billion post count within a few years or so.

The game and the forum are on separate servers, iirc, so yeah, it probably didn't.

There is no mass telegram from our side. That is a different thing, for a different thread.

And yes, only three continents. If the server had run on penguins rather than on hamsters, it would have been four continents.

Christ. I didn't know we killed that forum. And to think, for NS++ users, I was doing an exclusive on an obituary of the forums... Eh, thankfully, it was fixed, and I am also thankful that the shutdown gave me ample opportunity to compose that premature obituary.

It wouldn't- the TG system and the forums are entirely separate systems. It was apparently the forum that ran out of posts. Mass-TGs wouldn't affect the forum post totals.

After somebody posted #16777215, the forum database didn't have any more post IDs to assign. We had to move up to the next larger size, which is 4294967295.

Hardly.

It took us 4 years to get to 16 million. So let's say ~4 million a year. Going to 4 billion will take us.... quite some time.

The Telegram system is entirely separate from the forum. Separate servers even. There's no relation whatsoever.

No, this is entirely due to the high-volume of posts. When the forum was set up years ago (name redacted to protect the guilty) someone thought "oh, come on, 16 million should be enough for anybody! Surely our userbase will never post that much!" and then promptly forgot about that limit. And ever since then, post after post, year after year, we moved towards that upper limit.

Today we reached it. And we got reminded the limit was there.
