Dossier

Postby Poinston » Tue Nov 24, 2009 5:33 pm

Is there a glitch in the region dossier system? I had filled my region dossier to about 20 something pages, but when I added another region the number dropped back to 7 pages. I started adding the regions again and noticed that each new region was replacing an old one.

Why do you have 7 pages in your dossier?

Well, I have 8 pages of nations with no problems, mostly puppets, but a lot of them have CTEd. I only have a few regions.

I have a three-digit number of nations in my dossier; while I prune out CTEd ones regularly so as not to push things, there doesn't seem to be any limit. Regions may be different, but I don't have any experience with tracking them.

The Technical forum might be a better place to ask this.

yeah... I used to have easily over 100... but that's beside the point.

It sounds like you are asking what the capacity for regions in your dossier is. Last I knew it was basically unlimited... But there may be something that limits the regions in your dossier.

This belong in technical.

It might be important that this was the nation I was experiencing the difficulty with.

I added a cap on dossiers, because some nations (bots, I think) started going around putting every nation and region they saw in their dossier. The new limit is 500 nations and 100 regions per dossier.

Does the game tell you when you reach the limit and then make it impossible to add new nations to your dossier?

A quick bit of maths told me that my nation I use to dossier other nations has 500 nations in its dossier. I could add new ones to the dossier (and they were actually added), but the total number in the dossier stayed at 500. It wasn't bumping nations out of the end (ie the nations starting with 'z'), so my guess is that CTEd nations were removed.

Would be nice to know what nations exactly gets kicked out of your dossier, if you reach the treshold though. I'd really hate to randomly lose dossiered nations without knowing it, since there's a reason I've added all those nations to my dossiers.

To be honest I set a limit I thought would be beyond what anyone would actually need. I can bump it up again if you like. I'm really just trying to stop bot nations becoming massive files.

To answer the above question, you are not notified when you hit the limit; it just starts silently dropping nations/regions. Which I know is not very helpful, but again, the limit is meant to be above what humans will need.

I'd be very grateful if you could up the treshold. 100 regions in a dossier isn't that much. My dossier of founderless regions is pretty close to that limit, and my dossier of dirty invader puppets is close to 500 as well, if it isn't bigger.

Personally I'd prefer no limit at all, but if a limit is needed would it be impossible to make it a hard one? So when you reach the treshold it won't let you add any more nations/regions unless you decide to remove some too?

The fact that it randomly drops nations/regions is really bad, since I add them because I want to keep an eye on these nations/places. I can't remember the exact names of 300-400 nations though, so those which my dossier drops will be gone, with no way for me to know which ones they were.

Is the Dossier really useful at that size? I'm curious as to how you use it.

I'm happy to set the limit at whatever size is useful. I just want it to be substantially less than 55,000 nations and 6,500 regions, which is what some bot nations were accumulating.

At the moment I've got just a little over 200 nations added to my dossier. Its useful for telegram campaigning with the WA, because if you go through your dossier of delegates, then you know for sure that you're not double-telegramming a delegate if he isn't in your dossier.

Maybe the dossier limit should be equal to the number of WA delegates (currently 935) at the last major update.

Yeah, it's very useful. I check my dossiers multiple times every single update I'm online. Since I only look for things out of place I can go through a 30 page dossier pretty quickly + the Reports function can be useful too.

Would it be possible to put the limit for nations at 2000-3000? And for regions 800-1000 might be nice. And no, I don't expect to reach those limits right now, but it'd be nice to have a buffer, so most people never reach the limit. :)

I was thinking of a Dossier function in which CTE'd nations are auto-pruned from dossiers. I was also thinking about account verification to remove the limits, or something like that.

Please don't do that. At least not without giving people a choice in regards to whether they want CTE'd nations to be auto-pruned from their dossier. Having CTE'd nations in your dossier can be useful too. Sorry to be a pain about this, but I use my dossiers a lot and the new limits + the fact that nations gets dropped randomly is really messing up their usefulness as tools for me.

I would have to agree with Ananke on this. Having randomly dropping nations, and or regions on my dossier is not a good thing. If there is a limit to be had, I would rather be able to have a choice on which nation, or which region is more important.

I would also rather have the ability to have a number I am not likely to reach. Like Ananke, I use the feature quite alot. It's a very usefull tool we military types use, and use alot.

I currently have 173 pages of nations in my dossier; a few years ago I started using it to keep track of which nations I've recruited (one option for those who find it hard to keep track...). It's nice to be able to look through and see who's still around that I recruited and what they're doing. By this point, the majority of those have CTE'd, but not all CTE's are permanent, so I'd really prefer there not to be an auto-prune for them...

It occurs to me that I probably should go through and clean that out a bit. <_<

EDIT: Also, I was just thinking... would it be possible to add a drop-down sort menu to the dossier? That would be fantastic... so we could sort by whether they had CTE'd or not (making Dossier trimming easier to do) and WA status (delegates, members, non-members)?

EDIT2: A Dossier export feature would be incredibly useful, too (she says as she copies 173 pages by hand).

EDIT3: Or failing that, an option to display more than 15 nations on a page at a time.

EDIT4: And if the "remove marked nations" button could return you to the page of your dossier you were viewing when you hit it, that would be amazing. Right now, it returns you to the first page... which is fine if you only have 2-3 pages in your dossier and they all display in the navigation links at the bottom, but not so good if you're trying to trim the CTE'd nations out of 173 pages. (Of course, having a sort option for CTE'd nations and a check box to select all the nations on that Dossier page, in addition to an second option to remove all CTE'd nations in one click, would fix that. I'm thinking of the way email folders are usually set up.)

I support the call to increase the limits. I have close to the limit as well and will be grateful if [violet] could up it a bit.

Thank you
