Emblems for the WA Councils

Postby Omigodtheykilledkenny » Wed Nov 18, 2009 2:23 pm

An idea picked up from violet in the "separation" thread:

[violet] wrote:In the meantime, it'd be nifty if someone could whip up a couple of emblems: one for the GA and one for the SC. Ideally each would be a distinctive variation of the WA logo. (Maybe start a new thread for that.)

I thought I'd kick off this discussion if no one else wants to. Here are my humble suggestions:

The General Assembly

The Security Council

The emblem in the SC flag is the symbol of Macedon. Quite fitting, no? :p

...of course, these are just joke suggestions. If anyone else (preferably someone who knows the first thing about creating Web images, as I do not) has more serious ideas in mind, I'm sure the admins would love to see them. Remember, they're supposed to be variations on the existing WA logo.

Yarh.

It took a while to duplicate the background of the commendation badge.
I figure GIMP was used to create it originally.

EDIT: Obviously my entry for the SC.

Nifty.

Is there a way to add a white outline of the WA symbol in the background?

I'm afraid your ideas for the flags are over the top, Omigodtheykilledkenny. I was thinking of reintroducing the UN-based flags with a disclaimer.

Ahahaha

Seeing as I don't have much in the way of artistic merit, I do like Unibots design, but it would need to sort of be more neutral, as it is currently using the commend background. Maybe a darker shade of gray on the background to compliment the condemnations too?

..And if anyone wants the GIMP file (with layers!) of the flag, to save you time replicating the commendation badge, I can email it to you. Just ask.

The GA one could be similar, but instead of the Commendation backdrop, a plain light blue background with a white WA logo; and instead of a scale, a open book in the foreground (angled this wise) -- to represent the law, the rules, international order, and the fact that we occasionally like to throw books at each other. :p

By that logic the emblem for the GA should really be a pie or a dodgeball or something.

Well, we are descended from the organisation that caused the Great Dodgeball War...

Not completely representative of what you asked for (I'll finish that later, the white WA logo wasn't looking so good behind a white book) -- I got caught up in the idea of having a book of GA laws being held by a book-perch, or a pulpit or something shaped like the WA symbol. Which made me seriously want such a pulpit. 8)

NOTE: the illegible lettering on the book is GA#1 and GA#2, in green ink. I think. But I might have slipped the lyrics to "I am the Walrus" by accident in there... in which case we would have to hope Yoko Ono doesn't send us a cease & desist order.

Looks... strikingly Biblical. I like it, lol.

As do I. This was pretty much what I was thinking about... cross between a commendation and a condemnation.

It's wonderful, but maybe try and see what if it would look better without the main symbol touching the edge: maybe about 2-5 pixels vertical space between the border and the emblem?

When I get on my home computer tonight I'll try it out, Charlotte.

Keep in mind, that if you want the GIMP file to experiment with, I'd email it to you. Or anyone else who wants it for that matter.

:p The Holy Scripture thing is amusing, but the logo seems obstructed. Could we make the book bigger, the logo smaller (and golder?), and place the logo in front of the book, almost floating over the pages? That's another idea; it might work.

EDIT: and I agree about the SC flag; the darker one is definitely bolder. It's perfect.

I've made both versions have more gold, and brighter gold with the logo,

Image

Here's a rough version of Kenny's : Image

The book's photo was deteriorating too much by the time I finished so I'll have to redo it.

Though I really like how the top one turned out.

That's an excellent start. I like the brighter logo, and I trust you when you say you need to redo the book. Can we make the logo larger, and more centered? I don't think it matters if it's not perfectly floating over the book. ;)

The book and flame-thingy flags are interesting, but for accuracy I prefer OMGTKK's suggestions.

The darker SC one is brilliant. I'm liking the draft GA one, but...
Unibotian WASC Mission wrote:By god, who would put shadows in their flag? :palm:

It now looks a bit too high, too crammed into the top part of the flag. Maybe if the whole thing were lowered a touch?
