The alpha channel can be modified for additional fadeity. Fadeity is not a word, but you know what it means, so it is now.

My design could be a wide range of flags, as it is a common pattern. Because of this no nationality can feel that their flag is seen as that of an ex-nation.

I don't like your design, it doesn't look like a flag, isn't instantly recognisable and generally imo looks dodgy.

Question... Are we using these flags for nations that are short term delete, such that the forum checks, instantaneous flag change? Or overnight check? Or is this for nations that we *know* won't be coming back because their nation name has been removed and opened up for new registration? Or is it for both?

I would like to advocate for 2 separate flags for those 2 different situations. For the first, it's quite possible they could be coming back and simply forgot for a period of time or went on vacation or such. The second means there's no possibility that account could *ever* be posted under again, and so the Ex- part is much more final.

Other than the rare cases of deleted nations, I wouldn't of thought that we would easily be able to distinguish the two, especially when some people come back long after originally leaving. One flag is a lot simpler for coding, and means that the flag image becomes easily recognisable, whereas having two may mean the rarer one gets confused for something else.

I don't really see the point in making it look like a recognisable traditional flag - didn't a nation give up the right to a nation's flag when they ceased to be a nation !?

If we try to be too traditional to fit in with what "looks like a default flag" - it's going to look boring, and I mean what's the point of a creative community effort then?

Hah! Skull, check! Ex-nation, check! Gyronny by eight pattern that no real country uses, check!

Similarity to my flag... well... so I use gyronny by eight. So what?

Looks good Dread Lady Nathicana ... I'm wondering how it would stand up to the resizing though.

Ok, smaller ... and one to differentiate between dead and deat ... for giggles. And yes, they can be cleaned up if they'd actually get used, but I'm doing this for concept first.

edit - maybe greyed out? I dunno. May play with things later.

I think that the same flag should be used to represent deleted nations and inactive nations, but perhaps I'm just biased. Seems like a scarlet letter in a way.

I think Commerce Height's proposal (the standard blank NS flag with the ex-nation over it) is the best, but perhaps instead of ex-nation something like INACTIVE or anything else that sounds nicer than EX-NATION.

No one else seems to have a problem with "ex-nation." It's always been "ex-nation" and, since most people like the Ex-Parrot Sketch, it will probably remain "ex-nation." It's accurate, too, no matter how the "ex-" prefix was earned.

Point, I'm not actually sure the game will distinguish between DEAT and dead. Well... I know it has to so they can't be revived, but I'm not sure how it would tell the forum. And giving a special thing to rulebreakers... Sadly I can see people *trying* to get such a thing.

The reasoning behind 2 different flags in my head would be that in the case of a possible temporary absence, the poster may be back to post later, whereas if a nation's data has been purged, that nation name may be used by someone completely different in the future, and it would be nice to be clear they are never ever coming back at a really quick glance. The skull/RIP images seem more appropriate for a nation that will never return.

I personally like the grayed out flag as a temporary one, indicating a waiting but still possible return.

I thought of this after Scolo linked me to his post. I then read the thread after making it. Seems less original now. :(

Like this?

Forgot to remove the temporary background... Might need to fade the parrot.

Edit: Looks a bit odd... Might need to poke it some more.
Alsø edit: More fadeity.

I'm sorry that I have never heard the term before and thought it sounded a bit weird, but after hearing it was in relation to the ex-parrot Monty Python sketch I understand where it is coming from.

Thank you for explaining that to me, but I still do not like the way "ex-nation" sounds except if it is in combination with the parrot, like Tseaby's post. Magnificent.

Despite getting no love, I'm enhancing my suggestion... no one can resist this now,

Amm... I should crop it a little to rid the white spacing to the right but otherwise, close to perfect really, I wonder if the perfection blinds people to just how perfect it is.

EDIT: Good Lord I surprise myself sometimes..

Put your sunglasses on before viewing, it's that brilliant, I might drop font size from 17 - 16 but otherwise....

Awesome really.

SMOKING?! THINK OF THE CHILDREN! Or something like that.

No need to trim, just move the "Extinguished" over to the right so it can balance the left-weight of the cigarette.

Hmm, the cigarette does detract slightly, although it works quite beautifully as an image, it IS a cigarette and I'm not sure I want that on display as such, even where it has slightly negative connotations in terms of an expired account.

I hate to compromise my artistic integrity though, the art must come first surely.

I wanna whine so I can go on building my reputation as a whiny whiner, but I'm afraid I like Scolo's version (skull, not parrot).

The skull makes it look as if there was something a bit suss about the nation's demise. Secrets. Evildoing. Plots. Good stuff.

Maybe a rose between its teeth, for no good reason?

I swear, I don't know why I pay this $50 adopt-a-mod fee I pay to you each month, you're as ungrateful as a real child, if it wasn't for the threat of being DEAT-ed if I'm a day late I might never pay it.

No support whatsoever
