This error seems like its characteristic of a DNS error, as forum.nationstates.net is up, but nationstates is not routing properly. Have you checked the config file in the DNS server? Could be messed up syntax or something.

Sorry if this has already been suggested.

Also, I can access http://www.nationstates.net/pages/api.html as can some others who are unable to reach the site as a whole (but apparently not everyone).

I was momentarily able to access the api (e.g. http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/api ... dia/q=name ) which gave me a too many requests error for [An IP] (not my IP) which is ec2-[the IP].compute-1.amazonaws.com -- whether or not this is a component of the NS site, it's of some concern.

Edi2t: I now realize that the above problem is probably related to the squid cache misbehaving: I fetched http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/api ... ounderless which is linked to from the API thread here. Presumably that page had recently been fetched by others and therefore existed in squid: and squid likely gave me the error page somebody else had recently gotten. (Bearing that in mind, I have removed the IP from this post).

I hope this isn't a "me too" post.

The API is now back to giving Too Many Requests From [not] Your IP Address errors, referring to the same amazon ec2 IP.

There's no call for rudeness, especially from a Mod. I understand you guys volunteer, but it never helps to bring negativity to the fore.

I do apologize for my last message, though; I realize now that it came off as kind of abrasive. What I meant was that I don't know much about DNS problems or why they occur and I was hoping you guys could give something more concrete on what actually happened.

The site went down for me just now- I think this has been an hour or two after the site as fixed. Now the "URL" problem is back...

Edit- it seems to be working again. Might want to watch this one...

Yes, it seems to still be intermittent. Until a dev or game admin comes on here and says it's fixed, can we please not jump to conclusions about it having been fixed? Also, thanking the mods (or otherwise) won't make a difference – they're not the ones with access to the fiddly bits of the game.

It was like that all morning.

Currently the left side of NS, where the telegram links are and all, is down for me. And when I logged on at noon it said "This IP Address has failed at logging in too many times with this nation. You must wait 45 minutes" which was of course false, I waited 10 and I hadn't even tried to log in when I got that message.

This thing is wreaking havoc on the whole game. There was a short period where the forums went down just a minute or two ago.
