Minor name alteration - [Violet] only please

Postby Novraslavia » Tue Mar 19, 2013 7:50 pm

I was wondering, if by any chance in the world, if I could get a minor name alteration to my country. I would like to have "Novraslavia" renamed to "Novislavia". I know usually such changes aren't allowed, probably for some technical reason I know nothing about, but I was hoping there could be some way that such a "minor" alteration could be possible. Normally I would just start a new nation with the new name, but I'm a founder of a region and in order to have all my region-mates leave the region just for me to refound it under a new name seems like a lot of unnecessary work that will probably go very badly in the end.

Anyways, if such a change can't be done I completely understand, but you'll never know unless you ask. Thank you for your time in advance. :-)

[violet] has already spoken on the matter, and it's quoted in the Technical FAQ:

No, they cannot.
[violet] wrote:The game code uses a nation's name as its ID, an unfortunate design decision that we are stuck with. Renaming a nation would break all references to it in regions, player Dossiers, the WA, etc.

As such, if you have a typo in your nation name, you have 2 (obvious) options:
(1) Create a new nation *without* the typo to use instead.
(2) Roleplay the nation name as what you want it to be. (This selection is really your only choice if the name you want has been taken by another nation.)

I'd suggest that you keep this nation still the founder, but make a new one with the properly spelled name and make that your main nation for chatting/roleplaying/whatever
Never underestimate the power of cynicism, pessimism and negativity to prevent terrible things from happening. Only idealists try to build the future on a mountain of bodies.

The Thing to Remember About NationStates is that it is an almost entirely social game - fundamentally, you have no power beyond your own ability to convince people to go along with your ideas. In that sense, even the most dictatorial region is fundamentally democratic.

To provide an official Administrator's answer:

No, just as Mousebumples stated in the Technical FAQ.
