I suspect if you split is as you are discussing people will send two. One as regional recruitment and one as alliance / group/ organization recruit.
Or will the rules be make clear that both cannot be sent as it breaches the one nation one recruitment per region / org / alliance / group?

So we're supposed to use this interface to recruit for non-regional entities? But the interface assumes that I'm recruiting for the region I'm in. :/

Yep, and we'll need to fix that.

As I see it, we have two options:
  • Let recruiters disable that "Move to @@REGION@@" button when they're recruiting for an organization but don't want the recipient to change regions; or
  • Create a new category for non-region based recruitment, which doesn't include the button, and which people can choose to block or not.

The first option is simpler, since players can check one box to block all forms of recruitment. The second option is more flexible, which would suit people who are open to region-based recruitment but not something like the UDL, or vice versa.

Right now I'm thinking the first one makes more sense, but this is something we'll observe and refine as we go, with input from the people affected.

But doesn't the first option treat all recruitment the same? I mean, most people I talk to, like to join the UDL, specifically because they don't want to join a different region (that would be unloyal), but they want to help out with the defender cause. Likewise, I might be interested in subscribing to a hypothetical telegrammed-news-network (which I'm envisioning of doing), without leaving my region etc.

My recommendation would be combining those two options: (1) Doesn't have a button to move somewhere, (2) Is a separate category for "organizations" or "activities" or "miscellaneous" or something along these lines. I could see this being used for news media, opinion polling, roleplaying, defending, raiding.. etc. any activity or cause that doesn't fit into the traditional "region recruitment" block.

EDIT: Another thing would be interregional protests, invitations to join interregional conferences or world fairs (like the one I ran last year) and all sorts of "fourth estate" kinds of things.

EDIT2: New NS Software, like NSEconomy and the Gameplay Compass.

Can I get a clear answer on whether I can block people and if yes, whether I can still telegram said blocked person.

Roleplayers might make use of it as well.....however it remains recruiting and I suspect will be used by everyone if it bypasses a block recruitment tag

I tested it on my puppets and my telegrams were blocked, I got an error message saying Topid did not accept TGs from me. :)

I endorse this suggestion. Many (including myself) aren't interested in joining a new region but still wish to receive communications about inter-regional organizations and activities.

I imagine you would be able to block telegrams from that new category as well.

In that case I could theoretically send out TG's to join TITO as it is an organization in order to bypass the recruit block.
OR 10KI could send out invites to "celebrations" or "conferences"or a roleplay we want to hold on the forum.

I fear it will be abused in such a way.....it remains recruiting and the block should cover both.

So long as it was legal to join TITO without being a member of 10000 Islands or a specific region, then .. fine? (But it isn't)

I see no problem with this. More turnout in forum events like these would be good. I remember during Christmas there were several cultural events that tried their hardest to promote themselves all across forums, but they didn't get the word out enough.

Moreover, the potential for regional promotion has long been an incentive for hosting cultural and political events. I see no reason to discourage this incentive -- it's a good thing that regions want to host and organize activities for people to do.

We do, actually, but nobody has ever made the cut. Yay for completely arbitrary inter-regional organisations!

This is ridiculous.

Then your recruitment as an organization isn't going to be very profitable, is it?

If TITO actually was letting in non-10000 Islands citizens, then I see no reason why they shouldn't be able to approach players with the opportunity -- TITO offers a way for players to join the defender cause. Nonetheless, If TITO, isn't 'in practice' letting in non-10000 Islands citizens, then you really have no reason to try.

The point is that once nations realize they are blocked via recruiting tick box they will change strategies to hold events or create organizations in order avoid the filter

And I'm saying, if players are creating new opportunities like cultural events and activities, NS Software, new organizations and media organizations, with the idea in mind that maybe, just maybe, down the road it will help them promote their region... that's a good thing, that's adding a lot more to the game.

I'd frankly much prefer that be the dominant way of recruiting people, because that's giving back to NS, instead of just spam.

New telegrams and read telegrams

Postby MorrighanaWarGoddess » Tue Feb 05, 2013 8:40 pm

How do you mark telegrams as being read? I couldn't find anything in the already asked questioned or on the telegrams that allows me to mark them as read or take off the new next to them and the highlight on the telegram link with the number of new telegrams I have. I just want to know when a new one comes up not have them stay as new after I replied to them. It makes me think I might of missed one and makes it harder to know if I did miss one.

You are probably using the Antiquity theme: There is was a bug that is leaving the "NEW" tag on TGs.

Hovering over the name should pop up "Mass Telegrams of unspecified type."

It's the category assigned to telegrams that aren't explicitly addressed to you and don't fall into any of the other groups (recruitment, campaign, regional).

I currently use the Dark theme for NS and with the new TG system in place, has made all the text gray and hard to see on a white surface.
I was wondering if there's anyway I can change the text to black or something easier to read?
