Suggestion

Postby Saint Alexander » Fri Nov 09, 2012 5:01 pm

In terms of national population; I'd like to see issue resolutions play a more direct role in determining the population of your country.

Like for example;

Resolution A will raise your population dramatically while Resolution B will lower it, but resolution C will result in a minor rise of population.

That way, nations like mine who win awards for most healthy , educated, and happy citizens will experience massive population explosions while less healthy, educated, and happy countries will end up with barely any citizens to rule over.

What do you think, NS?

I believe that the issues effecting population was discussed but was decided against.
Anyway, as for my personal opinion. I'm opposed to issues effecting population, populations are a way to know a nation's age (granted, it's not always 100% accurate, taking CTE's into account). I'm fine with issues as they are. For me personally, if issues effected my population, I'd be put off wanting to answer issues.

Suggestions for changes in game mechanics should be posted in Technical. However, since this extremely common suggestion has already made the "no way in hell" list in the .:The BIG Collaborative List of Suggested NS Improvements:., I'll just leave you with [violet]'s response on the subject:

[violet] wrote:You would think so, but somehow we started with no population-modifying issues, and then because of that, population became a status symbol. So we're going to leave it that way.

Ah, I see... Well, I'd prefer if there were some way of controlling population. It just seems a little rediculous to me that nations that are overly aggressive with high mortality rates and terribly polluted landscapes can still sustain a population of over ten billion people, when in reality it should be a fraction of the number.

Placing some kind of population control would also make it much more worthwhile if you ruler over your people as a fair and just ruler rather than an oppressive tyrant.

NS population growth was never intended to be realistic, as Max had no inlking in 2002 that the game would still be up and running, much less that loyal players would still have ancient nations. For most people it's nothing more than a counter proving "I've been active since <date>, lookie at my massive e-peen population". For the few that care, there are other options.

Many roleplayers use a Factbook Dispatch to post their true population. It's ludicrous to imagine that a single planet the size of earth could support thousands of nations with 10 billion or more population, so you're more than welcome to set your own.
