What happens when you join the World Assembly?

Postby Frederiquia » Sun Aug 26, 2012 6:49 pm

Does it change your nation type and stats in line with the World Assembly resolutions? (As if I had introduced them as legislation in my own country in an issue.)

And is this completely reversed when you leave the World Assembly?

Thanks. :)

No and no.

Nations stat-wise, your nation is only affected by WA legislation that passes while you are a member. Leaving the WA does not reverse stat effects that happened as a result of past resolutions. RP-wise you are supposed to be in compliance with all of them I believe.

To add on to Luna's comments:
RP wise, you are supposed to be in compliance. However, there is a long and storied tradition within the WA (and the UN before that) of discovering and exploiting loopholes in legislation to evade compliance with those topics you don't agree with. It's all meant to be RP (and therefore fun), so if you can find a way to "justify" how your nation evades compliance with XYZ resolution, that's fine. Of course, by saying "We don't wanna" ... that won't get you too far.

From an RP perspective, you're presumed to be "compliant" with all resolutions - even those that passed before you joined. However, if you're interested in the stat side of things for your nation, you can evade the stat changes by resigning from the WA prior to the passage of what you view as a "damaging" resolution and then rejoin after its passage.

i.e. A Social Justice resolution is going to be passing at the minor update this morning. You could resign now (about 45 minutes prior to its passage) and then apply & rejoin later today. While you would still need to be compliant (RP-wise), the passage of the resolution and the associated stat changes would not impact your nation.

Another one of the "strange" things about the WA is, I believe, that the "negative" stat effects that occur when repeals pass (i.e. backing out the original impact that the resolution had) still affect those who joined after the original resolution passed. For example, the next proposal in the queue is to repeal Intangible Cultural Heritage. That resolution was passed on July 3 of this year. A brand new nation that just joined the WA yesterday would still get the "undo" stat effects should this repeal pass - even though they weren't in existence when this resolution originally passed.

Anyhow, I'm probably rambling on a bit more than you really needed, but if you have further questions, just give a shout. :)

Yep. You won't get the stat effects of anything passed while you were out of it, either.
