Is there a list of names you can't use for your nation somewhere please?

Very surprised this one was available but I've tried heaps that aren't and it's a pain. Is there an index anywhere?

If you mean names that break the rules generally it's anything sexual or with a swear word in it.

It's possible that it was used before. Old names become available again after a while.

Yeah, it probably got recycled this last October. The nations who were immediately grabbed were actual nations. These types of names don't seem to be in much demand. Originally it still took several months. Game went live in November '02, name originally taken in April '03.

Nope, you'll just have to try 'em all manually via the Boneyard.

No. Capitalization does not matter. It was likely Snow White anyhow. I think after a nation CTEs all the capitalization drops except the first letter.

It doesn't. A former nation I had with a two-word name, the first letters of which were both capitalised, retained the capitalisation when I checked the boneyard.

Such a list would be too big to be practically useful, IMHO.

It starts with 92K nations which are currently in the game. Those obviously cannot be used to create a new nation. Then add the nations which are CTE now but were active within the past 5 years and so the names cannot be re-used (yet). That puts us at (my ballpark estimate) 1 million names. Then we need to add the names of all CTE nations played last in the 5 years before that but which have a population over the 250m limit (wild guess: another 500K names?), plus rulebreaking nations not counted yet, and a handful of reserved nation names for various other reasons.

Oh, and the list changes over time as well.

Just creating the list once would require plowing through lots of nation files (3 million+), which would be a huge effort for the NS server (taking days, if we want to also keep the server load low enough so people can continue to play the game in the mean time).

I am not advocating this but, theoretically, if those regions that contained the mention of a reserved nation CTE'd then would that name become available, assuming it met the other criteria too?

If so then it might be expedient NOT to release that particular list - too much of a temptation!
