Not enough punishment in Nation States

Postby Jefferson Confederacy » Mon Aug 06, 2012 3:18 pm

Ever since I joined nationstates I knew that my ideal government would be a libertarian nation that struggled with the same philosophical battles that occur inside of my own head. After playing for many months I managed to keep my 3 main attributes at a nice level with Crime and eco-toxicity being my main flaws. No one wants to visit my country, social order has crumbled, and for the most part I'm willing to accept this compromise.

On the other hand, countries that sacrifice their business for welfare have little consequence other than a title declaring an imploded economy. How can these countries sustain their people when their economies are literally 0? Is it possible for a country to crumble in this game other than a player voluntarily ending it?

If you keep an open mind as I keep mine, maybe we can change each other's opinions! After all, that's why politics are fun.

The only way a nation 'dies' is if no one logs into it for 28 days (60 if on vacation mode) of if a moderator deletes it for very serious rule breakage.

It's a political simulator, but not a very serious one. Filled with a lot of radicals and little middle ground. Sometimes it isn't very realistic at all.

I have found though. This game is more about the "states" than the "nations".

Regions are where the real politics happen. Each region is like its own mega-state, where nations live.

Regions are nations, nations are states.

This is NationStates.
You can call me "Juris" for short. Also, you don't have to type my nation name in all caps either.

It is all in good fun.

That's too bad. I understand this is a simulator but I thought it was more of a game/simulator hybrid.

To be 'realistic' in that sense, the game should allow wars with other nations even if the match-up is completely uneven (imagine a 20 billion population nation stomping on a 20 million population nation), and also coups. After mistreating your population, having a bad economy, or the ever fickle population would democratically decide it's time for new leadership: suddenly you can no longer log into your nation as the game decided the nation is under new leadership. Too much reality would make for a very bad game.
