Hmm, so there are no ".win" ads and fewer auto-redirects, but still the occasional one to appleshop.today and proads.tvcod.com?

These ads aren't malicious, but the video ads on the sidebar really seem to hinder page load times. And the one I just saw was so small (a landscape video ad for samsung galaxy) that it was very hard to actually see anyway. I don't remember video ads before, but I usually spend more time on my nation with supporter status. Is this the new normal?

It's a very old bug where "Latest Threads" doesn't extend far enough down the page on the forums, not caused by any particular ad.

Thanks for the report. It seems like we've killed the ".win" ads but tvcod.com isn't quite dead yet.

You mentioned slow loading times before, but we only begin loading ads after the page has downloaded, so that shouldn't be an issue.

I'm sure that's probably correct then, but it definitely feels to me that the whole page loads and responds more slowly when one of those ads is playing versus the regular ads.

And no, they autoplay with sound off. Which I greatly appreciate. Thanks!

It is possible for ads to affect responsiveness (if they consume a lot of CPU), as well as the download speed of everything other than core page content, such as images, since they may be coming to you down the same pipe at the same time. Ads are pretty notorious for being bloated in terms of size, too.

Hello,

Within the past two days, I have encountered a problem with the NS Forums. When I enter the forums (happens about twice a day, not every time), it will freeze for a second and then a website named "Gamiss" (looks like a shopping website) will show up. I immediately close my browser and do a virus scan, since I am wary of viruses. The website will not come back until a few hours later, and I do the same thing.

I had a problem with pop-ups on my iPhone 6S in December and January, which caused me to quit NS entirely until they stopped in late January. I do not go on malicious sites, and have AdBlock installed and operational. I use Google Chrome for NS.

I had this issue once before on NationStates, but in my case it was actually a virus on my computer. Dunno what admin will be able to tell us, if it is a problem with advertisers we should be able to get it corrected

What antivirus do you use?

I have Avast! and I run a bootscan every week, with nothing to report.

It sounds like it could be an ad that redirects you, although it's odd that it happens on Chrome, which is good at stopping that kind of thing. Which version of Chrome are you running?

Is it possible to copy the URL of the site you land on? Often it has some useful redirection info in it.

Does the site open in a new tab/window or can you navigate back to NS again afterward?

From my brief inspection, Gamiss looks legit, so I tend to think it may be an overly aggressive ad rather than a virus, especially given your anti-virus protection.
