As Adsense clients, NationStates has the ability to restrict those display choices. [violet] is the one who sets the limitations, which is why we have this thread.

I use AdSense too I tend not to restrict ads as if the ads are tailored to visitors then they are more likely to click on them increasing the clicks per minute revenue generated, but that's just me.

The tailoring isn't very good, and when you're getting ads for Russian mail order brides on a site where many users are under 18, that's a problem.
If people like the ads they are getting, they won't report them.

that's because it's a two part system it uses a persons search history and it also crawls the entire website for "key-words" to help in showing relevant ads for the site. I think you can set it for under 18 mostly I'm not sure if that feature was implemented yet

Advertisers aren't always honest so setting it to under 18 won't reliably screen out everything that it should screen out. Hence the need for this thread.
