Show when my neighbours are online

Postby Love and Rockets » Sat May 30, 2009 6:05 pm

I would like to ask for a change to the Regional display, if possible. I would like it if you could put an indicator of some kind in the display to show when nations are currently online, just the way there is an online banner here in the forums that shows that a nation is online. Maybe make the text bold, or put a little mark like the WA thing... Can this be done and, if so, could you do it please?

Though, there is a "Most Recent Government Activity: 20000000 days ago" thingy on nation's pages. It's not entirely accurate because many people can log in only for a second, and then one has to guess if they would still be online. I think it's a valid, and very neat idea.

Ok, since it has been implemented, what am I looking for in "online" nations.

I'm not sure that it has been implemented yet. They simply plan to implement it.

To comment from the Gameplay side...

Cool. This way, I can tell before going in to a liberation whether or not the raider del is actually online and going to try to eject me.

Maybe it could be an optional setting.

You are meannies! :p

I just innocently wanted to know when people I know are online so I can send them a message or whatever and know that they will get it right away, have a conversation...

and you...you...have to turn it to
  :evil:EVIL!

meanies.

Well, this would have the most benefits for the "good" side in the military conflict...

Erastide wrote:Damn Nai... you had to tell them?
 Sorry, Eras - this "Gameplay rep" persona got the better of my defender 'seize every advantage!' instincts...

It'd usually be a fairly minor point. Probably. (We already check their national activity, anyway - this would just mean that they couldn't sign in and lurk for hours.) Raider delegates already have a pretty huge advantage anyway, if they know what they're doing... a little help for the liberators wouldn't hurt. :P

And if none of the raiders show up here to complain, we could just pretend I never said anything...

"Online now" really just means "had activity within the last X minutes." So it wouldn't be any more useful in telling whether someone is online than you can already see by checking their nation page.

Some raider delegates, knowing that defenders check their nation page, will sign on up to an hour or more before update and continue clicking on things in the site to avoid an auto-logout. Because "Most Recent Government Activity" dates are actually measured by last log-in, rather than last activity, a raider delegate may actually be online when it appears his "Most Recent Government Activity" was 5 hours earlier. "Had activity within the last X minutes" would be different if it measured clicks anywhere on the site, and depending on the size of X, could be relevant or not for the purpose of liberations.

Or they could just use the little online bar that they use on the forums.

So someone will sit for five hours, doing nothing but watching and waiting for events in some region that isn't even theirs, in a (fun, but fairly simple) online computer game!? That's um dedication or something. Wow.

Well, you can be doing other things, so long as you remember to click around somewhere on the site periodically so you don't get logged out.

But yes. Dedication.

If this happens, can we achieve an opt out for feeders. It was so much more entertaining during the Crimson Order when you had the faint hope that Lewis and Clark wasn't actually watching the region at that update, only to be proved wrong again :p (at least until I'd managed to naturalise my sleepers enough to avoid his banhammer)
