Restore deleted nation, but forgot the password?

Postby Indoslavokia » Thu May 28, 2009 5:36 pm

Well, I would absolutely LOVE to restore my original nation, but unfortunately it used a password that I never use anymore and haven't used for years. I believe I know the e-mail address used to register it. The unfortunate part is that we can not get the nation restored without the password, and there is no way to recover the password if we forget it.

I see that the old names are getting released soon and I don't want my older nation to be reformed if I can't control it. Is there any possible way to add this feature before the older nations get released? :(

Yes, but it tells me that there is no existing nation. I know it exists still because it tells me the name is taken when registering, too.

Check for trailing spaces after the name...

Example:

Unibot" "

I know it was the right name. I have tried many times before, it never seems to work. So either it doesn't work for this one nation, or it doesn't work at all.

Well then I can't help you. But I'd post the nation's name so hopefully an admin can check it out.

Best of luck!

Nation name: Bobsville

I had the name 'Bobsvile' before, but it got deleted after I was found having something in the vicinity of 25 other UN (at the time) members.

I had a practical use. I alone invaded and destroyed 5 regions, including a somewhat decent one. But I regret doing it now. :(

Well if Bobsville got deleted, there's no way to restore it. The only nations you can restore are those that die due to inactivity.

I usually call it deleted for inactivity. Bobsville (with two L's) was deleted due to activity; Bobsvile (with a single L) was deleted for rule violations. ;)

Perhaps if you ask nicely the mods will resurrect the nation for you then you can reset the password.

Yes, submit a Getting Help request and describe the situation, then you can use the reset password link.

Ah, I remember now why I could never access it: I could never remember the damn e-mail I used for it. If I am not mistaken, it was a VERY old e-mail that I don't even think is active anymore - if I even added one. Oh well... :(

What if you didn't put in an email address for the nation that needs a password reset? Because I've forgotten a password to one of my puppet nations, but I don't need it resurrected, just a new password.

With no email or an email that no longer works, you're effectively screwed. Sorry.

Because otherwise anybody whatsoever could claim to be the player of a particular nation (even one that's still in play) but to have forgotten its password, get a new password sent to their own eddress, and thus seize control of that nation from its rightful owner...

Just wait for them to release the old nation names, and then pounce on Bobsville. :D

Because apparently some people have trouble coming up with names that haven't been used.

Maybe there should be an option that let's you assign your email address to all your nations in the settings or upon nation creation.

If the WA is capable of detecting multis through IP addresses, wouldn't it be easy to just find all nations that are using the same IP address to determine their ownership?

Exactly. Typically, if the name is taken already and they wanted to use it, then they probably know the name from somewhere.

I don't get why it's such an issue to be out 2,000,000 names whenever games like Jagex already have 55,000,000 names used. I personally would be pissed off if someone took my nation name that I haven't used in years.

Actually, I can think of a few cases where this would matter:

Founders that have expired (I think).

Issue authors (who are linked from the issues).

UN/WA resolution authors (who are linked from the resolutions).

Notable nations (e.g. major ex-delegates, ex-mods).

In each of these cases releasing the name might lead to unwitting confusion, or witting deception.
