Embassy technical issue

The "has an Embassy with" relation is not symmetric. As of this morning's dump (and game reality too), The Black Hawks has an embassy with United Defenders League (no The), but United Defenders League has no embassies with anyone. This assymetry (in general, not this specific one) causes certain algorithms involving connectedness of regions by embassies to produce different results depending on the direction you go in.

If I had to guess, I'd say that termination of an Embassy doesn't always get cleaned up on both sides.

I don't know if existing instances of the problem can be cleaned up or not, but if it can at least be determined how it happened, then possibly such algorithms can know how to cleanse the data themselves before getting into trouble, and perhaps the creation of new anomalies can also be avoided...

IIRC TBH tried to found every variation of UDL and create embassies with them, until UDL complained and a mod stepped in and deleted those regions. So I believe it was a special occurance that won't happen in normal play.

It seems like some of the problems are timing (actions during update not taken into account), some are data entry problems and some may be something else. We have not looked at every one. But there are several where a region died during update and apparently the region was not removed from the Embassies List of the other region.

Here is the full list of regions with "messed up" Embassy entries in the Region XML feeds. By "messed up", we mean there is not reciprocal pair of entries in Embassy listings between the two regions.

Yep, we can't abolish the embassies with TBH.

Since, reportedly, a Moderator caused this mess, we would like to humbly request a Moderator fix this mess.

The problem regions are:

Untied Defenders League [not a region]
UDL [no The Black Hawks Embassy]
The UDL [no The Black Hawks Embassy]
United Defenders League [no The Black Hawks Embassy]
The United Defenders League [no The Black Hawks Embassy]

These regions either do not exist or do not have a corresponding Embassy with The Black Hawks. That is not how Embassies work. We do not care if you remove the Embassies from TBH or add TBH Embassies to those regions - just do one or the other becuase Embassies really should be reciprocal.

I don't know about that. I can't figure out how it happened yet. The Black Hawks history lists the establishment of embassies with UDL, but not vice versa, so did it somehow only get established on one side?

Presumably this will re-occur, so if anyone can report the circumstances, that would be immensely helpful.

For now I will manually clean up these extra embassies.

Yeah, basically the mods renamed the UDL regions, which got refounded by UDL members.
