Violet, I'd like to say thank you on behalf of the group and ourselves, and I hope we passed the audition. *bows*

I kinda like seeing the parade of new names.

At best guess, we're releasing something like three quarters of a million names, so I don't think it matters too much who gets a few hundred that reference real-life places. I say if you want a name, grab it.

No real change to the top 10, except for Scotland bounding up the list in the last few hours as people checked it frequently as it neared release time.

I'd like to introduce a nation that hasn't seen the light of day since the first week of NS.

On a side note, I noticed this nation originally CTEd with 5 million pop. Did populations not grow in the very beginning?

Well, I nabbed this nifty little name here without competition it seems. So, hello from Perfect

I also nabbed two others. I have Chris and Christopher now. My name sakes are mine.

I guess we'll see if that name's acceptable.

Also, it's a holiday?

Well, I don't think there is a policy against it being used. Just so long as you play by the rules of NationStates, I don't think that the nation of Jesus Christ will experience any problems.

Anyway, the only other one I have my eye on doesn't come up for several weeks, so I've got time. I've managed to nab 4 out of the 6 I had my eye on. One of them went to someone else, so I have no chance on that one. Still, [violet] and NationStates team, thanks for everything! This is fun!

Violet, it'll be interesting to see the effect, both long and short term, that this has on the number of active nations. With the first couple of days, it seems it's jumped a couple thousand. In the next month, I'd like to see where its at (perhaps if people want nations enough, it could even break 100,000). Then we'll just have to see how long those nations last, or if two months from now we're almost back to where we are now.
If you ever have an RPing question, please TG me about it.

It was probably a bug. There's used to be various bugs which could halt/double population growth, especially back in 2002.

It's a fad. And then maybe in 5 more years people will do it all over again as the very same nations become available once again. :p

A lot of these very early nation names have single/double digit populations which couldn't happen today though.

Dangit. I had Argentina all prepped and ready to get. Oh well, I'm fine with getting Milan. :)

I saw someone created Tuscany like right after me, haha.

I was all prepared for Argentina and Israel, and stayed up for them, but I didn't get either. :(

Oh well, I still got San Francisco. :D

Thanks to my best buddy, Spartz's help, this nickname belongs to its rightful owner: Unistrut.. I mean.. Unicario.. or was it Unilisia? Nope, definitely Unibot. Muhahaahaa.

Unistrut was Uni long before you even found NS. And you'll never be Uni even though you got others to grab the name for you.

I was suprised at the amount of competition.

I managed to pick a few names though.

I'd say simply, release all names after 5 years of total inactivity.

Think about the numbers in terms that we can relate to. Remove eight zeros from the numbers and pretend it is the household budget for the fictitious Jones family:
-Total annual income for the Jones family: $21,700
-Amount of money the Jones family spent: $38,200
-Amount of new debt added to the credit card: $16,500
-Outstanding balance on the credit card: $142,710

-Amount cut from the budget: $385

Funny...I might try to convince you to give me that nation at some point. I usually end up playing as Jesus in some RPs.

EDIT: NVM, you're apparently serious about this. It's been a running joke for years that I've been trying to capitalize the Uni nickname amongst the wealth of other famous "Uni" players, I wouldn't have even mentioned Unistrut if I had known you would take offence. I don't know the person at all, I've just been under his name's shadow for years.

And yes, I knew I forgot one, thanks George and sorry Unidox!

Unibot: Referred to as Uni by most NSers who know him.
Unistrut: Referred to as who? by most NSers.

Thus, Unibot = Uni.
