Fris, Page is my third nation on this site, my first was made in 2008, and I've been on the forums since 2010.

Is there are a reason there aren't naming filters in the first place that could prevent the million variations of penisland? Is it because of the Scunthorpe problem or what?

1. DEAT nations become available again after 5 years. Let's be honest with ourselves, this an internet forum. There is no crime heinous enough one can commit with a keyboard that their name has to be anathema for all eternity over. If that's too soon, even 7 or 8 years instead would open up lots of good names.

I can't help but think that people would just use this to nab infamous nation names. MagicChina, Perrier, SeaQuest, and Hataria would make comebacks.

Admittedly, I think it'd be hilarious to see Hogsweat revived, but releasing DEAT'd nation names seems like a bad idea to me.

We routinely do an eyeball check of all newly created nations, looking for bad names and custom fields. This can't be scripted because of the variants players are constantly using (i.e fuk, phuck, fcuk, f-u-c-k, f_u_c_k, and about 500 other variants just of that word).

I had an old nation, named Daedran, that was deleted due to one of my friends(no longer though) got on my account and insulted the moderators and admins and using a gory image to describe what he wished would happen to them. I was wondering If I could have the nation restored, and change the password to make sure no one can get on it?

Deleted Nations can not be restored and names are banned after my knowledge, otherwise what use would have a deletion if the troll/spammer/what ever caused the deletion could get back with the same name ?
Also I know the mods ruled in a equal case that it would be your job to make sure no one else is posting with your nation.
It's unfair sometimes but so are the rules.

My friend got into my iPad and found the password to several of my accounts. If I could access my post history, you'd see that it was fairly normal, until my friend got on my account.

Your password security is your problem, not ours. Absent permanent webcam monitoring capability, anyone logging in to a nation using its correct password is effectively the owner. If they broke the rules doing so, those nations stay deleted.

Wait, so wait, what counts as breaking the rules? As long as I learn passwords through legal ways, such as asking them for it and being told it, will I be recognized as the new owner or would I get in trouble on the site?

It is against the rules to hijack someone else's nation, and if we see someone do it, we'll ban them. If we don't see it happen, though, and someone changes your password and e-mail address, I'm afraid you're on your own. As far as the game is concerned, your government has been overthrown in a coup.

Nations that have historical value for whatever reason and should never be reused, such as Francos Spain (important but relatively short-lived nation from early in the game), or Zooke (well-liked Generalite who died in real life). There aren't many such names reserved. The designation was added so that we didn't have to prevent revival by forcing a mod deletion and making them appear "soiled", when they were anything but.

there is one nation that was last used march 23 03, it cant be reused due to a population of 650 million.
could you make an exeption for decade old nations with under a billion?
only it's sort of vital to my region.

Although I disagree because that would likely eliminate 95% of all the nations currently up for release, I do see that it is likely to cause problems. Have the administration anticipated these?

NS has ~220,000 registered forum accounts, and just ballparking it I'd say a bit over 10% have posted in the forum. Of those, well over ten thousand have less than thirty posts. It's something to think about, but I doubt it'll be a huge problem.
(the above was written while I was well under halfway through researching this, and I didn't expect the population of people with <100 posts to be so large. It took me a while to put a finer point on it:

47,795 different accounts have posted to NS. However, a huge proportion of these accounts have very few posts. The bottom 30,000 contributors have between 1 and 12 posts. Only ~10k of forum-active accounts have more than 25 posts, and a little over a thousand of us have (heh) a thousand or more posts.

I could see us reserving nations that achieve a certain number of forum posts, but they would be a tiny minority at any reasonable limit.

Wouldn't having a high amount of forum posts cause people to spam forums?

If it's actual spam then the mods can slap them for it, if it's contributing/relevant/etc then surely it's more of a positive than anything else?
