I don't know; maybe because that is how it sounds to some, and is still spelled like that in certain languages.
Not sure, should most likely be German, which i do not know well

The German name for Germany comes from the German word for German... German Land...

Actually, I think that 'Deutsch' comes from a term that originally meant something like 'the People' (in the sense of a distinct ethnic group, rather than that of left-wing politics) instead. After all, presumably the Dutch -- whose designation comes from the same root -- don't think of themselves as Germans...

Korea spelled with a C was originally a romanisation of the word Koryo (Goryeo), which it was first referred by the Persians when they first visited Korea during the Goguryeo dynasty. The name was later changed to Koryo (Goryeo) in the fifth century by King Jangsu, hence the derivation.
