It seems to have been triggered when users tried to use the Forum login but supplied an incorrect password. The code that handled that situation would bring down the Session manager, logging everybody out. Now hopefully fixed!

... So exactly how many times did someone supply an incorrect password during those fifteen-minute long logging out sprees...?

I suppose if one person did it, it would log everyone out, and during the ensuing rush to get logged back in, somebody would typo their password, and throw everyone out again.

By the way, as per other thread, it was Py who tracked this one down. So goooooo Py!

Sort of. I figured out the general cause (thanks to this thread) and tracked down a smallish chunk of code that was responsible, but I hadn't been able to find an error message that would tell me what was actually happening. [violet] found that and fixed it.

Ummm, did anybody remove the fix again?

The last couple of days, I've been logged out several times. Same as before. Clicking on a link to a subscribed thread takes me to the forums log in page. Clicking the Nationstates banner takes me to my nations frontpage. Clicking back logs me into the forum and points to the correct post in the thread.

Also, navigating via the drop-down menu is still broken...

That still works for me, but if you have problems, please create a new thread with details (e.g. which browser and operating system).

Anyone else having session problems?

Without fail when I log into a puppet and switch between forum topics rapidly it will log me out.

If I rapidly switch between screens like following links in regional happenings, or something it will log me out. Try changing screens rapidly. Although sometimes it does just log me out when I'm doing average things, most of the tme I'm doing something fast.

That sounds like a cookie problem with your browser. Especially if you have one on auto login and then log out of it and into another nation. The cookie will sometimes stay active and your browser will log you back into the nation that auto logs on and the game will just do its job. I fix it by not clicking on the "Remember Me" feature or closing out of the browser playing a game, using the bathroom, head to store, eat something, or go to work.

As New South Hell, you might want to cut back on the number of puppets, that might help.

I've spent quite a lot of time on this, and Py and I have tried a few hopeful fixes, but personally I've never been able to reproduce the problem, not once. Which makes it hard to fix! If anyone can supply me with a step-by-step guide, "This always logs me out" (or even "This usually logs me out") that would be awesome. Without any pattern, and without having seen it myself, it's very hard to diagnose.

Maybe this can help you track the issue:

Today I was posting in various topics (tabbed browsing) with tab1 being the NSG main screen.

I had about 3-4 other threads open, posted in them, and then returned to tab1 (NSG).

When I hit F5 to reload the General forum, I got logged out, even though my most recent post in one of the threads hadn't even shown up (showing the message "your post has been successful" or something, reloading the thread-page).

I was still logged on in the four tabs, but not on the main page.

This thing will never keep me logged in if I am inactive for more than 20 minutes. Even pressing the "remember me" button. What is wrong with this?
