Annoying Google ad

I think the ads could be messing up my internet, not only Nationstates but player/region created forums (I keep getting redirected to different sites without clicking anything). Anyways was concerned when I saw this from my virus prevention program:

That definitely explains the constant security risks IE (all versions) experiences (which is why I use Firefox and lock-up IE). It does not indicate a virus but it is IE's weakness.

However this is a PG-13 website and something needs to be done about the ads.

I'm not sure NS can do anything about a specific google ad. You, otoh, can.

I have actually excluded a very large range of ads that might be inappropriate for younger players. Gambling ads, for example, would pay us really well, but we've declined them.

Google is very good about its ads, I think; they keep out all the bad ones. The Evony ads are suggestive, sure, but no more than half the covers of boxed games you walk past in a retail store. It's just a little cleavage.

I personally don't see the big deal. Yes, the ads are stupid and, from what I hear, totally misleading (especially in regards to boob-content of said game), but I don't find them actively offensive. When I'm typing a post or reading, most of the time I can't even see the banner bars. If I have to put up with a half-glance every few minutes at a mockworthy ad so that Max can make money and keep the forums going, I'm all for it.

What I find much more interesting are the simple little text-only links to various sites, and how different forums attract different ones. For example, NationStates General must be filled with Death Row inmates since thats who all the links I see there are directed at.

Sorry if I'm being annoying by continuing to discuss an issue the admin's already weighed in on, but I wondered whether there was another issue at stake, which is that Evony is not really a very responsible game to be advertising, in terms of their repeated violation of the intellectual property of other games, and duplicitous charging practices, not to mention widespread botspam in advertising their game. So boobies or no, I would struggle to think of them as a game the game staff would particularly wish to see NS players invest in.

I know you can't stop every single ad, but Evony do seem particularly bad examples of net business practices.

Apparently Nationstates isn't the only site getting hammered by those goddamn Evony ads.

They (evony) pay Google to create a Google ad; Google pays NS less money to includie the same ad in their popular site. Google uses extra money to fund large military they keep in hiding in preparation for the day they unite with Disney to rule the world.

I played EVONY in response to those ads, and its not a very interesting game. I shouldn't have to wait entire hours between actions. I'd much rather pay max and banish all advertising all together.
